On Saturday the kock was in considerable confusion, wing to the crowd of buyers in the ore all day, and several negroes were etected trying to steal. On Monday gain the same trouble occurred, and ,ill Cordes, a negro, was c'mught car r'ing off a trunk. He was arrested d carried before Maguistrate Cath irt. He plead guilty and was sen inced to pay a fine of $15 or 25 days n the public works. Judge Bdchanan was in Sumter for a few days, and a reporter for the Watchman held a conversation with him on the subject. In a conversation with the writer to-day Judge Buchanan stated that he had authorized no one to announce that he would not be a candidate for re-lection, and any statement to that effect is unfounded.
