W INNSBORO.
Taeslay, June 5 -- - 1900
Tis second section of the proposed
amendment to the Federal Constitu
tion is as follows: "Congress shall
have power to definc, regulate. con
trol. prohibit or dissolve trusts, mo
nopolies, or combinations, whether
existing in the form of a corporation
or otherwise. The several States may
continue to exercise such power in any
manner not in conftict with the laws
of the United States."
This amendment would give Con
gress great power. The chief objec
tion to it is that it deprives the State's
of power now possessed by them. The
tendency of the Federal Government
has been to extend its dominion.
Centralization of power in the Fede
ral Government has always been.
dreaded, and to this tendency of cen-.
tralization is due many of the evils
frqm which we suffer. This amend
ment would practically nullify all
State legislation on the subject of
trusts.

BRYANT NLWS.
We are having splendid weather
now for farm work. The nights are,
however, remarkably cool, which
- probably accounts for the slow growth
of everything. The farmers are get
ting along nicely with their work, con
sidering the backward year. March
corn has improved a great deal during
the past two weeks. Some complaint
of bud worms in moitiustances thout.h
the crop Is doing well - indeed some
of it is very fine. Coutn, where
worked oat, is growing nicely. A
considerable part of this crop yet re
mains to be chnyped: the stand is
rather defective. Small grain better
than it wat last year, especiatlly wheat;
it has cornmaenced to ripeni, and ;n fact
some has already been harvested.

CANDIDATE FOR KATEIKONY.
;ome of my friends who live near by
Have tried, but always failed,
[o get a girl to say "Oh, yes,"
And are always sad and pale.
Lhere are many ways to do a thing,
My friends don't fail to try;
Tis said a car of wives-elect
Are being shipped them "notify."
But the following is my platform,
Don't think it is too long,
l'o expect of one perfection
Would be a word too strong.
A mind that's full of jolly sport,
A heart that beats with love,
A cheerfnl spirit, never cross,
Though she may be above.
Not one who prates and pouts all day,
Because there is "because-,"
But one who never does "because,"
Though it may be nature's law.
She must be early for to rise,
Though it may seem quite hard.
Poor folk must up and do about,
Or they will "loose their card."
Red-haired, freckled, I do not want,
Nor maids of forty-two,
Sweet sixteen with hazel eyes,
And plump; yes, that will do.
Her life will not a burden be,
But she munt do her part;
I'll milk the cow and feed the pig,
And she must cook the tart.
If there's a girl who'll fill the bill
In all the forms divine,
Don't fail to write me first of all,
My life will e'er be thine.
No matter what her name may be,
If she only be a rose,
There's nothing in a pretty girl's name,
So she'll do for one to "chose."
