LOCAL BRIEFS.
- Received,'new line of Golf Hats
and Tam O'shantas.
Mrs. McCarley.
-Mr. Halbert Palmer, of Ridgeway,
who has been at work in Newberry,
has recently accepted a position in the
Bank of Union.
-After November 1st the hunting
season will open and the sportsmen
will be rejoiced. The law does not
put a stop to all hunting, as some in
dalge in the sport in spite of it, but
after the first all are free to hunt when
ever they have the time and the incli
nation.
Eat plenty, Kodol Dyspepsia Cure
wiil digest -hat you eat. It cures all
forms of dyspepsia and stomach trou
bles. E..3. (amble, Vernon, Texas,
says, "It relieved me from the start
and cured me. It is now my everlast
ing friend." McM iter Co.
-Tuesday, Oct, er 31st, will be
All Halloween. From the earliest
ages this night has been celebrated by
young people with parties, at which
games of all kind are played. The
children of Mrs. Refo's dancing class
will celebrate the evening in the armory
with their little friends, and they are
looking forward to a jolly evening.
Light refreshments will be served to
the little folks.
-That there i to be a school
opened at the factory is an established
tact, and several ladies have applied
for the position of teacher in this
school. As yet, however, no one has
been elected and the date of the open.
ing is not known. There is a large
number of children at the factory who
are old enough to attend school and
the opening of one so convenient to
them will be a great advantage to
them.
"When our boys were almost dead
from whooping cough, our doctor
gave One Minute Cough Care. They
recovered rapidly," writes P. B.
Belles, Argyle, Pa. It cures coughs,
colds, grippe and all throat and lung
troubles. McMaster Co.
-An Art League has recently been
formed in Columbia and Mrs. T. C.
Robertson was elected president. This
is a new thing for Colnmbia, but it is
succeeding admirably, as it could not
fail to do under the direction of Mrs.
Robertson, who is a woman of great
;executive ability and who is an artist
-of such wide reputation. Mrs. Eobert
son is a prime mover in all such enter
priss and is always successful in what
she undertakes.
-Just received!I A handsome line
-of open and top buggies at
; * -For th first time in seveageas
emiu hasbeen offered for the
b-~- est county exhibit at the State fair
i November and if'suffisient effort is
made on the part of the farmers Fair
fleld can carrry it ofl This has been
al bad for the farmers but in
spit o sagaist wichthey
~becoieted that would undoubtedly
be as fine and probably finer than any
other on exhibition. This would be a
great chance to -show the possibilities
of Fairfield County.
The "Plow Boy Preacher," Rev. J.
Einkman, Belle Rive, Ill., says,
'-After suffering from Bronchial or
ilung trouble for ten years, I was cured
- ~ by One Minute Cough Cure. It is all
.that is claimed for it and more." It
cures coughs, colds, grippe and all
throat and lung troubles. McMaster
Co.
-The members of the-Timrod Asso
ciation have not yet succeeded in rais
sing the amount of money required
for the monument, and they are still
anxious to dispose of as many vol
umes of the poems as possible in order
to increase the sum on hand. The
young ladies of the Memminger
lims Association of Charleston
have offered their services to the asso
ciation to assist in the sale of the books
and have appointed young ladies to
K canvass the city and they hope to give
the association great assistance.
S -Some citizens of Greenwood, ac
cording to the Greenwood Journal,
were as badly taken in by the sharpers
connected with the Wallace Shows as
were some of our people. One man
was relieved of $620, but upon realiz
ing his loss employed a lawyer to as
sist him in recovering the money.
'.he show people and iheir property
-were arrested and held until the
money was returned to its owner.
7Numbers of people lost money here in
the same way, but $65 was the largest
amount that any one person lost and
no one took steps to recover it.
-If you scour the world you will
-never~ find a remedy equal to One
Minute Congb Cure," says Editor
Fackler, of the Micanopy, Fla.,
"Bustler." It cured his family of
Le.Grippe and saves thousands from
pneumonia, bronchitis, croup and all
throat and lang troubles. McMaster
Co.
-The papers recently have had
mu~ch to say of Fagin Martin, of
Greeuville, who died on Thursday at
the age of 78 years. He was a pe
culiar character, but was a well known
person and seems to have been a man
of great force. He gfregnently con
tributed articles to the Greenville
News which Were always read with
great interest. For years he was a
priuier and worked in the office of
the Greenville News, but during the
past few years he ha-l a sma!l farm
onrside of Greenville, but from this he
scarcely ma'de a bare living, his friends
and neighbors doing much tc help
him. Sundayfs Charlotte Observer
contained a long and interesting as
-cont of the life of this quear old man.

Mr. J. P. Caldwell, who several
months ago got out a patent on a
stand [for displaying goods, has re
cently patented a cotton planter, which
he has invented. The display stand
which he invented is now in use all
over the country and is recognized by
merchants everywhere as be'ng not
only a handsome piece of furniture,
but the most convenient stand for
displaying goods to the beat advantage
thst has been invented. Mr. Caldwell
has not yet realized much money from
this first invention but some has come
in and he hopes to make a considera
ble amount out of :-t as it is so widely
used. The cotton planter will nb
doubt be a greater success than his
first in rention. Mr. Caldwell has a
dccidcd mechanical and inventive
genius, and if he continues to succeed
with his inventions will rank among
the foremost inventors of the State.
