Mrs. McCarley. -Mr. Halbert Palmer, of Ridgeway, who has been at work in Newberry, has recently accepted a position in the Bank of Union. -After November 1st the hunting season will open and the sportsmen will be rejoiced. The law does not put a stop to all hunting, as some in dalge in the sport in spite of it, but after the first all are free to hunt when ever they have the time and the incli nation. From the earliest ages this night has been celebrated by young people with parties, at which games of all kind are played. The children of Mrs. Refo's dancing class will celebrate the evening in the armory with their little friends, and they are looking forward to a jolly evening. Light refreshments will be served to the little folks. -That there i to be a school opened at the factory is an established tact, and several ladies have applied for the position of teacher in this school. As yet, however, no one has been elected and the date of the open. ing is not known. There is a large number of children at the factory who are old enough to attend school and the opening of one so convenient to them will be a great advantage to them. The young ladies of the Memminger lims Association of Charleston have offered their services to the asso ciation to assist in the sale of the books and have appointed young ladies to K canvass the city and they hope to give the association great assistance. S -Some citizens of Greenwood, ac cording to the Greenwood Journal, were as badly taken in by the sharpers connected with the Wallace Shows as were some of our people. One man was relieved of $620, but upon realiz ing his loss employed a lawyer to as sist him in recovering the money. He was a pe culiar character, but was a well known person and seems to have been a man of great force. He gfregnently con tributed articles to the Greenville News which Were always read with great interest. For years he was a priuier and worked in the office of the Greenville News, but during the past few years he ha-l a sma!l farm onrside of Greenville, but from this he scarcely ma'de a bare living, his friends and neighbors doing much tc help him. Caldwell, who several months ago got out a patent on a stand [for displaying goods, has re cently patented a cotton planter, which he has invented. Miss Charlotte Allston left Monday or visi to Dr. and Mrs. William Bishop Capr r.. Monday on his way from Yorkviio to his home in Columbia. Mr. W. C. Bel',-of Blackstock, has gone to Chattanooga where his new reversible patent plow will be mann factured. Dr. D. E. Jordan left Monday morn [ug to attend Synod, which meets to day in Newberry. Mrs. Jordan ac companied hilL as. far as Columbia where she will visit her daughter, Mrs. Thos. The children all seem to take quite an interest in their studies. There is a series of meetings going on at the quarry. It is being con ducted by Rev. Mr. Rriscoe, assisted by Rev. Mr. McDowell. The peopte seem to be taking quite an interest in the meeting and we trust some perma nent good may come out of it. Mrs. Peurifoy's music class now umbers sixteen. She has also a calisthenics class of twenty. The pupils enjoy the marches very much. Mr. J. L. Robinson [has sold to the Stewart Company a.'granite ledge in the very heart of the Greenbrier sec tion. Mr. N. Tinman is the manager for the Stewart Company. They are working a considerable number of hands and it seems as if Greenbrier is steadily progressing in all business projects. Mr. S. R. Mrs. S. C. Hood left a few days ag< for Gilbert, S. C., after visiting hel mother, Mrs. Sarah Wooten. Mrs. F. E. Hood returned home a few days ago. Mr. W. F. Fennell is again in Blythe, wood. Mr. J C. Hofman paid us a lying visit several days since. Miss Pet McQuatters and her mother, of Columbia, returned home last T hursday after a visit to Mrs. H. L. Baxter. 2:ss Lilly Hood is now assistant in the postoffice during the absence ol her -ister, Miss Emma. Mr. M. M. Clinkscales and family, wL have been living here several years, now reside in Winnsboro. We regretted to see them leave; they will be missed very much, especially Miss Lois, who is very attractive. Mr. Tom Price, of Columbia, has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Blain. Mr. Forrest G. Gyles, the night operator, has been sent to Lexington. Mr. Monroe Watts moved his family to Columbia last week. Mr. George Moore, Jr., of Ridge way, was in Blythewood Friday. October 21, 1899. Taffy.
