We left home in the morning and went by private conveyance to Alexandria; after walking aragnd town a little we proceeded to the Ferry, where we found that the boat (Belle Haven) wouldstart in p few minutes, thin we proenired our tickets and went on board where there were quite a num ber of people patiently awaiting the time when we should steam up the river. Tbe day was uncomfortably warm, hence our anxiety to be moving; howrever, our patience was not tried - dea', for in a few minutes the signal waii given and the boat was off. As soon as it began to move a de lightful breeze sprang up. What a lovely scene was presented to the eve!' Everywhere coiuld be seen beautiful little yatchs, sail-boats and vessels of varipus descriptions. We met the egeny'sion bioat-the p'eng-which was erogg~ed; all qn lloard seemed tq be quite userry,. and as they passed us straiins of beauiful music reached our ears, which almost made us wilh we had been on boa d the Penitz and not the Belle Haven, but the people on the excur:-ion boat could not possibly Jknow our thoughts, and tw e were ap -parently qes happy (If 11,t a ga') as they were. From the itost syp poull see Arlincton po-ing in the 'distance, also the 'Spiscopa1 Seminary-and it was hard to determine which were more beautiful, the green sbores of ?Jaryland or those of Virginia. We visited several of the hendsorge store,B also passed several noted build ings, but did not have time to visit them. As we had been walking a good deal, w e enjoyed riding on the cable cars to the ferry. The boat left for Alexandria at half-past three, and atter enjoying a nice lunch we went on board and had a charming trip bak When we jea-hed Alexandria wg found crowds of people going to an adjacent town-ew Alexandrpa to witness a champion game of ball between the girls of New Alexandria and a boy nine. Shortly after the game commenced, the adrane d young pwomen were compelled to retire on cuouint of a big rain which came up; they post poned! the game to an indifi jite tim3. We had a pleasant drive bomne, gud thus ended a most delightful day, We recently attended an entertgtn ment which took placo at the Fran conia school house. It was given for th benefit of Olivet Church, and con sjsted of tablearl recitations, &c. After the acting was over, refreshments were served, and everybody preseni seemed to enjoy themaselves antil a Ja'e hour. The weathier here has been very pleasant this summer, and with th4 e apin of a few very warm days it has been comparatively cool. Tbere is an abundance of fruit in this neigh borhood, and a good sale for it at the markc t. Crops seem to be in a fiour:shing condition-corn especially and we hope the farmers here, as well as those of South Carolina, will have a good harvest. For the past ten days a perfect de luge of water from the Atlanta City Waer Works, has been pouring into the lake at Piedmont Park, the site of the Cotton States and International Exposition at Atlanta, and in a short time the immense basins which make up the two iatkes will be filled with crystal water. The lake extends for nearly half a mile along the foot of the immense central plaza, skirting many of the principal buildings. It will be covered with gondolas and electric launches, and will be one of ti e features of the Exposition. In the center of the main basin will be the electric fountain, designed by the con strucor of the electric fountain at the World's Fair. This fountain will throw a solid stream of water a hundred feet high in the air, and innumerable sprays and side jets, brilliantly illuminated from below the surface of the lake by electric lenses, will add to the gorgeous beauty of.the fountain. A letter from far away Turkey to the Woman's Board of the Cotton States and International Exposition was received a few days ago asking for space in the woman's building for an'exhibit from the ladies of Turkey. The space was granted and they will make a dis lay of needle art and other faney wo done by the women of Turkey. The scope of the exhibits in the Woman's department is widening every day, and it will doubtless be a thorough representation of Woman's work of the world. The-State press association are ooing to attend the Cotton States and futer national Exposition in force. Every press association in the Union has been invited by the management to visit the Exposition in October, and many of them have already accepted. The latest to accept is the Indianna Press ssociation.
