and his clerk by the State Cons'abies
in Columbia was a great violation of

issued. It seems that Ihook and his
clerk, Piaut, we:e standing inside of
the store, when Constables Speed,
Davis, Ilollowaiy, Martin and Beach
rushed in, wilh their hands oni their
pistols, and searched both of these

Capt. Duenis, routed and dispersed
the insurgents, who left twelve killed
and twenty wounded on the field.
Goncz is nuderstood to have the
provinee of Paerto Principle, intend
ing to un'te his forces with those of
the insurgents at Cori jo. Tihere is said
to be bad feeling between 31asso and
Maceo, and it is reported that the
bands'of insurgents under these two
leaders are almost ready to fight each
other. The cause of this ill feelingr
is said to be that Masso's whites are
unwilling to serve under the colored
officers, and the wvhites are also re
ported to bc opposcd to Iknin::- P;P
erty and killing defenseless people. It
