We are in i that it extended over other sections of the county. -Mr. T. L. Johnston is thrashing the grain around Winnsboro. We will have a large yield of oats from some crops near town when we can get the data. -We had the pleasure of meeting a friend and schoolmate on Thursday whom we have not seen in years. Mob ley, who moved from this county to Texas in 1878, is now city assessor and collector of the city of Clebarne. Mr. Mobley's friends will be gad to know that he is doing well in his new home. M'VED His GOOD.-Mr. T. II. Ketchin has moved his stock of goads from the room he occupied, one door C north of Caldwell & Ruff, to the new brick store formerly occupied by R. T. I Matthews. Mr. Ketchin has been in the building from which he has just i moved about twenty-one or two years. I NEARLY BLIND.-WC learn from private advices that the Rev. T. GRADUATED.-We notice that the State Register, of Asheville, has an account of the graduates of the Normal and Collegiate Institute in that city. This is an industrial school, teaching a dress making, cooking, drawing, etc. We notice among the number who received diplomas is the name of Miss b Kiizz~ie Timims~, daughter of Mr. James M. A FAMILIAR SIGHT.--The old express iruck at the office here is plying its trade or old. Several years ago it was a a common sight to see "old Joe" S. C pushing a heavy load of beer crates for different parties in town, but this t] was done away with when the State a went into the liquor business. But 0 now the Palmetto Brewing Company has made a deal with the authorities P whereby they have the privilege of U putting on a commissioner's certificate r by paying a royalty and anyone mayh buy who has the money. Dr. Salmon says that the department had end- avored to secture leaisl tion similar to the oleomaraaine law, which wil comu p)91 dealers in hore meat to have it lab.-led so that comn-um:ars need not be deceived. The wedded pair left an hour later, via Charleston and a sea voyage for New York and other ->laces North. An important valise, eft at the starting point, occasioned a stop over in Columbia, which gave Sam time to make a cal I at the Keigh bor office. Clessing on the Twain. 'Miss Aiken has been in Winnsboro on several visits to her relatives here and made a host of friends who wish to extend their best - ishes for her future happiness. FEW WOULD ESCAPE. An article appeared in our last isSue coi 1enting on the report that Senator Tilb, tu had used the remark that "he wu. I not vote for Chirst if he would run un a gold platform." A gentle man who does not believe that Senator Tillman was guilty of such language requests us to copy the following arti le in order that some of the virtues of the other side may be shown and we cheerfully comply With his request: The editor of this paper, while con stantly thrown with Governor Tillman for more than a year, never in his life heard him use a profane or blasphe mous word. But whenever Tillman :bancas to !et his tongue slip, the anti papers take up his thoughtless words and grow livid with indignation and horror. There i% one thing about. [I. R. Tillman that cannot be said for some of the old ring rule governors: lIe is a sober, moral, virLuous man, and his private life, it compared with some of his predecessors, wouid ap pear as a halo of glory. But why don't the anti papers comment upon te profanity, Keentiousness an d d rank enness of their owin leaders, before seizing upon every idle word that Ben Tillman may chance to utter? Of course no one upholds profanity, but we do not consider Senator Tillman a profane man by any means. If you dogged at the heels of any one, nnd caught up and published his every tterance, there would fall words, in nomer.te of excitement, that would not sound well to pious and refined ers. -iedmont HeIfadligid. IsUCKIIEAD ITEMS. Bucam:.mD, June 27.-We hadl a nice rain on the 1.;th, and there was a yclone and a washir'g rain at Ar. ~3elton Lyles' on the 22nd. These ains at such times the farmers cannot help feeling thankful to God, the iver or all good. The crops are looking fine.. There is an abundant crop of old field plums, md the blackberries, the niever-failing fruit, have made their appearance. There is also fine crop of peaches and some apples. Capt. T.~ N. Lyles and otners that have sown wheat are much pleased ith its prospect. I don't think the oat crop) 15 ?s good ts it usually is. Gardet.s and melon pat ches are good. The octogenarins, Mrs. C. L. and Capt. T. M. L., are well. Why can't the Tillmanites join the onservatives? It was aweful safe in 1876 with Gen. Hampton and M. C. Butler as our leaders to the much oveted white supremacy; and such men with the Conservatives have not lost their grip ont it, and the interests of all citizens would be and have been much better in their hands than this maladministration since 1890. The so-called'Reformers seem to be much afraid if the government passes out of their hands-that there will be negro rule. IHow was it in 1870?
