What D, Yon Say? '|
We invite every Democrat in the
county who will agree to the following
to send us his nome en a postal card:
That delegates to the Constitutional
Couvention shall be nominated in a
primary election, ia vhich all white
men shal te entitle: to vote who shall
a.- C athl to support the nominees
at the gener - eleetion; that two man
:wers shzall be selected from one frc
tion, one nanOg.:r and terk from the
other faction, and that no vo:e shal be
counted that does ne;t enktain the
names of two Reformerd Con
servatires, and all candidates shall file
a pledge to abide the result and no
vote shall be countcd unless .such a
pledge has been filed.
Can't we get one thousand white
voters in Fairfield county to agree to
this proposition? If -it meets your
approval send us your name and ask
your friends to do the same.
CocN-r no vote that h lasn't two Re
formers and two~ Conservatives, and
you thereby -assure equal division, and
give esJd faction a voice in selecting
delegates.

grievance against the ring.
EACH county can adopt any rule not
inconsistent with the State Democratic
Constitution. Nothing in that instru
ment provide4 for a primary election
to nominate candidates to the constI
tutional convention. Therefore, Faiir
field County can adopt her own rules
and regulations for nominating dele
gates.
THERE is onme maltter which we feel
cannot be urged :. ser.:,ngly o th~e
County Supavie.:~ and township
boards. It is the on L3:er o f go o
'There is no deny ing tIe fact that the
public road workinmg is :.humbug at
present. It is merely a way of tax
dodging. Most men work the r eads to
get around rte tax. Our count shouldl
have a road machine. They only cost,
so we are informed, about S250). Mr.
T. W. Ruff savs th-it he will nmot ask
for any further help &ohm the conn'ty
if'they wili only buy onme of these
machines; lhe will use his ownl stodk

have these machines, andl they have
proven a paving inve;ment to those
two places. If our people could on1 y~
once feel the eff.e t of good roads in
our county they would not need to he
reminded of the benefi5s. We hope to
arouse the offcials to the neceessity of
some active work in this matter.
TuE white people of Fairfied Countv
e-n get together on a satisfactory
basis, an I we believe that the c :m
mittee representing the "Forty" have
it in their power to settle the question.
We would like to hear from thoem on
the subiect. Nothing can be done, of
course, if nothing is attempted. Wey
had a very harmonious convention or
mass meetinig in the Court House some
time ago, which elected delegates to
the Sta'e Confereuce which was also
et very harm~nious h'ody. But it seems
that, after appointing working com
mittees in t':.c different counties.
nothing whatever to carry out the
pl!ans of the Forty has been done. A
committee for this county was ap
pointed, but nobody scemrs to know
-myhat it is doing. it is useless to at
tempt work of this kind without or
ganizition, and we respectfally sug
gest that the committee take some
steps to organize the peace and unity
voters upon the plan of the con ference.
We believe that the people of Fairfiel I
arne perfectly willing to divide the
delegation to the conference bcte.cen
the two factions. The candidates can
be nominated in a primna-y as we have
already suggested.
