HoREOR PREvENTED.-We were
shown a device on Monday for pre
venting accidents to ginners. It is a
~well known fact that the serious acci
dents always happen when the ginner
puts his hand uder the saws to clean
off the mote board. N. serious acci
dent ever happens from putting the
hand in the mouth of the gin, though
a person may be painfully cut. Sheriff
Ellison and Mr. Samuel Simpson have
purchased the right of a device which
.willfprevent accidents and at the same
time not obstruct the perfect working
-of the machinery. It consisti simply
of a section of quarter rods running
paraleli with the saw shaft which are
placed so close together that the hand
cannot he inserted beneath. It is a__ _
good device and a much-needed one.

The Star Splangled Banner's Author.
Many interesting things about Fran
cis Scott Key- the auther of the Stui
Spangled Banner-are contained in a
pamphlet, which may be obtained free,
from the Key Monument Association
of Frederick City, Maryland, by scid
ing one 2 -cent stamp for postage. The
association is raiiog funds for a suit-i
ble monument to the poet, and they
suggest, that in the schools and every
where, upon or before Flag Day (June
11th), this subject be suitably recog
nized. Centributions, however small,
are asked for. Every one who loves
the flag ought to have some small
share in building this monument. The
Governor of Maryland has strqugly
endorsed the movement. The names
of all contributors will be preserved in
the crypt of the monument, and pub

of the monument when completed.
