Brice, Jr., and Mr. Adam Dun bar came to Winnsboro on a sleigh to attend Court. They live about sixteen miles from town. Tnar WERE "OUT OF LINE."-The Air Line train came over the road. of the Southern Railway on Tuesday ; it passed through Winnsboro about ten o'clock on Tuesday night. There was freight train off the track at Thickety and the Air Line train had to come to Columbhia to get to Charlotte. Governo SEvans has appointed Jas. Q. Davis, Maj. T. W. Woodward and W. J. Johnson a committee to work in representing Fairfield County at the Atlanta Exposition. Fell on the Ice. United States Commissioner 3. G. Hawthorne slipped on the ice yester day morning while on his way down to his office and fell heavily. He was insensible for a few minutes but re covered later on and was about as usual during the afterasoon. His face was severely br-lised and one finger was dislocated. Mr. Hawthorn is a native of Fair field, and is a brother of Mrs. W. T. McCrore,. His friends here will re gret to learn of his accident. HIS BODY NOT YET FOUND. We regret to inform our readers that the report in reference to finding the body of the son of the Rev. G. P. Gresham, who was drowned at Fish Dam Ferry on Broad River was a mistake. The railroad agent, L. F. Pagon, at Shelton, on the S. & N. R. R., regrets that through mistaken reports he notified parties interested that the body had been found. Upon investigation, instead of its being the body of tihe unfortunate boy, it was C found to be the b dy of a drowned cow, the colors of which, at a distance resembled those of the overcoat which the boy had on when he was drowned. Lyles Glenn, an attorney of the Chester bar, was at court on Tues lay. Mr. James, of the Chester bar, was in attendance at Court on Wednesday. The tate failed to make ont a case and the ldge orded the jury to write a verdict >f not guilty. The grand jury then brought in a :rne bill against Reuben Perry, charged with stealing, an ox from Joe Lee. erry plead guilty and was sentenced .o two years in the penitentiary. No bill was brought in against WV. f. Brice. In the case of Alfred Mc~eigh and ~liza Stevenson, no bill was brought A true bill was brought in aguinst 1art Black, charged with murder :near Salem Church); also a true bill Lgainst Allen Boyd, charged with nurddr, against William S. Sharpe, rue bill. No bill was found against lbert Thompson, also Chas. Richard on and Jesse Humnphries. (in two ~ases.) In the riot case at Simpsons a true yi1 was only found against Gee. IcMullen, Sam Jackson and W. M. Egleston. The court then proceeded with the :ase of Ben Adams, John iUosboro, ist Boyles, and Charley Paulding. Wednesday. A true bill was brought in against Dennis S. Murphy, Dennis Carter and ['homas Byrd for assault and battery with intent to kill. That is for the hooting of Henry L. Parr. The two ast named are colored men. The presentment of the grand jury was read by the clerk and will be published in full in our next issue. At the time of going to press the attorneys were speaking in the case igainst Nat Byrd and others. Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria. CLEVELAND-KENNEDY. On Tuesday evening, 12th inst., at the home of the bride, near Ridgeway, S. C., Mr. W. T. Cleveland led to Hymen's sacred altar Miss Janie E. Kennedy, daughter of the late Mr. James Hugh Kennedy. The~ occasion was a very private one, only a few relatives, and friends of the family being present. A few minutes past 8 o'clock p. m. the attendants met at the door of the bride's room. The bride and bridesmaids were arrayed in white with appropriate flowers and descended to the parlor which was beautifully decorated with evergreens and flowers. Over the altar under which the bride and groom stood were festoons of evergreens and flowers, and the letters "K. and C." The Rev. Mr. McClure officiated in a very solemn and impressive manner. FARMERS MEET IN COLUMBIA. The Plans They Devise to Betteer Their Conditionl---Caucuses Being Hold to Form New Parties. COLUMBIA, S. C., Feb. 19.-Dele gates from the 25 county Alliances in this State and other farmers met in convention here to-night, to consider their condition and devise plans to better it. They adopted a scheme for purchasing fertilizers on the "cotton option" plan, stipulating the amount they would give in cotton on Novem ber1st for each ton of corn; kinds of fertilizers and the amount in currency they would pay if it so pleased them. They decided also to use as little fer tilizer as possible and only the high grades. They bound themselves to reduce tho cotton acreage, by only planting in cotton that portion of their lands not used for raising provisions for borne consumption, etc. They likewise demanded that the railroad commission immediately re duce the rates on fertilizers 20 per cent.; that the railroads waive their 30 days notice of such reduction be fore it can become effective; and that the fertilizer companies prepay freights on their goods to be paid back on November 1st, with a cotton option at 5 cents a pound on November 1st if te farmers prefer that t..o paying the cash.
