The News and Courier offers $100 and we offer $20. -Mr. J. P. Caldwell has received from H. E. Harmon, publisher of the Sothern Tobaccco Journal, of Winston, N. C., a letter in which that gentleman offers to come to Winnsboro and write up the advantages of this neighbor hood as a tobacco growing section. The only consideration asked is that the business men of the town sub scribe for 20 copies of the Tobacco JTournal, at $2.00 a copy. The Journal k is published weekly, and if this sec tion should engage in tobacco culture to any considerable extent, it is well worth the money. -Our local in last issue of this paper calling for reports of parties who may be in distress in town has develped that among the colored peo - ple there are case& where a lack of work has resulted in scarcity of food and wood, and consequently there is * suffering. A few parties have con tributed, but the demands are too many for the community to allow a few to bear, and we suggest that par ties who wish to contribute will leave their names at this office.
