They report a very pleasant time. -Steele, the famous hat dyer of the South, has been in town for several days. He finds plenty of work to do, and says that Winnsboro is one of his most profitable towns, -Mt. Moriah, Mt. Zion and Poplar Springs churches will unite in a Sun day School picnic at Mt. Moriab Church on Saturday, August 11. An interest ing program will be carried out. All ar'e invited. --The Fairfield Rifie Guards are to be inspected today at Lebanon Church. They have made preparations to have a large basket picnic, to which a number of their town friends have been invited. -War is being waged against the .;dogs in some portions of the town. i- gentleman reports having seen several'N; dead on a single street. Persons having valuable animals should see that they are kept in at. ight if they wish to find them alive in the morning. -There is quite an exodus at present of the younger colored population, composed wholly of tax delinquents. They r~ll expect to return again as soon as the weather gets cooler, as it is not ood for their health to join the chain gang this hot weather. Those failing to pay will be put to work on the streets during the coming week. - Lawn tennis in spite of the warm weather occupies a few hours daily of the young folk of the town. The court is situated on the premises of Rev. C. E. McDonald where the young men and ladies resort late in the after noons for tennis and other amusement. There are some good players in our town and we see no reason why we can't get up a tennis match now as we see our boys can't play base ball. -The twentieth annual meeting of the State Press Association will be ld at Pawley's Island beginning Au ust 16. For a few days the edi tor will cease fighting among them elves over Tillman, the dispensary, etc., and give themselves up to the pleasures of dlam-bakes, fishing excur sions and surf-bathing for which this well known resort is famed. They wll also bear addresses from many of the distinguished editors of the State. In the Old Men's Club the following officers were elected: Hi. A. Gaillard president; W. G. Jordan and J. C Cadwell, vice-presidents; Thos. HI Ketchin, executive committeeman. In the Young Men's Club J. P. Cald well was elected president; T. W/ Laderdale and J. N. Center, vice presidents; M. W. Doty, secretary o executive committeeman wa elected.
