The order will be sent Monday week. Now don't delay, but act at once. -Mr. W. A. Flenniken has been elected teller of the Peoples Bank to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. W. G. White's resignation. Mr. White has filled the position most efficiently for more than two years and the directors are very sorry to part with so alithful and capable an einployee. Mr. Flenni ken, his successor, is a thoiough business man, and will dil the position most satisfactorily. Miss Annie Timmns, daughter of Mr. Jas. M. Timms, of this County, and Mr. Leonard McNaull, also of this County, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony on last Wednesday even ig. Both of the high contracting parties are well known young people. WEDDING OF W. K. TURNER AND MISS CARROLL. Mr. WV. K. Tnrner, son of the late Dr. Turner, and Miss Jeanette Carro:l of Bullock's Creek, York County, were married on Wediiesday evening t the residence of the bride's parents. A reception was tendered the young couple Thursday evening at the home of the groom in this county. A number of Winnhboro people were among the guests. THEE. &D'.RAILROAD. The R. & D. Railroad Company made a tender on Saturday, through their local attorney, or their taxes. The amount tendered not being suffi cet to pay the taxes un~der the new assessment, the County Treasurer re fused to accept the checks until Le should be advised by his superiors what course to pursue. The chcks were held hero until Thursday, upon which day they were returned to railroad headquarterPe, the County Treasurer having received no authberity to accept them. This is the status of the matter at present. -Caldwell & Ruff have just received a lt of carpet samples. They are ECHOES OF TmE FIRE. The fire is still a prominent topic, and it probably will be for some time to come. Several insurance men have been in towh this week adjutinig the losses, and it is understood that the work was accomplished satisfactorily to the losers and dhe insurance coi panies. There certalviy should have been no trouble on the part of the losers in having their policies promptly paid, as the rate, froni 4 to 51 per cent, paid by the property holders who were burned out should insure a speedy settlement of their claims by the companies intersited. J. D. McCarley & Co. had a quantity of grOceries stoen the night of the fire, but aF there was no insurance on the stock the loss will be clear. Caldwell & Ruff have tnoved the remnants of their stock into the store room three doors above W. C. Beaty's. R. T. Matthews has moved into t he store next door to J. D. McCarley'3. S. S. An Unknown N-gro Decapitated by the Train. Thursday night about 9.30 o'clock, an unknown negro boy, about fourteen or fifteen years of age, was run over and fearfully iangledl by the worth bound freight train. It is not known exactly how the accident happened, but it is thought that the circumstances are about as follows: Not long before the killing the boy told some one that he was from Blackstock, and had s boarded the south-bound freight to steal a ride to Woodward. The train . was running so rapidly when it pazsed that point that he could not get off, md so he came on to Winnsboro. [t is probable that he attempted to xard the train which killed him, at the crossing in rear of Phillips' store, md in so doing was thrown between 0 r the ca,,. His body was found lying >etween the rails a short distance a iorth of this crossing. The head was b :ompletely torn off, and. almost every & >one in his body was broken. The >oor negro was so mutilated that it is n impossibility to identify him. It is lmost certain that he is from Black- S ;tock, but his name is unknown.
