DEATR OF JAS. R. SLOAN.-Mr. Jas.
L. Sloan, a well known citizen of
Fairfield, died at his home near Horeb
on Monday motning. The deceased
had been in bad health for some time,
at neither he tnor any of the menmbers

tirely, unexpected. Mr. Sloan was

of the dispensary there, but from the

we are l'ed to believe that the "Pal
metto Jurg" is just about as unpopular
- - there ast it is in Winnsbore. We
haven't had an opportunity of seeing
the official report of the dispenser,
but if the business is comparatively no
greater than that of the local establish
ment it is a source of very little profit
either to town or county.

The fl11 term of the Court of Gen
eral Sessions and Common Pleas open
d Monday morning, ITis honor Judge
ary presiding.
The criminal docket was quickly
put itn shape for the week's work, and
the other preliminaries attendant upou
the couvening of Court were con
cluded without the loss of unnecessary
time.
This is Judge Gary's first visit to
Winnsboro in a judicial capacity, but
e has already very favorably im
nressed those with whom he is by his
duties brought into contact. lie
seems perfectly at home upon the
bench, and is undoubtedly thoroughly
posted on every detail of the duties
that attach to his important office.
The following cases were disposed
of during the first day:
State vs. Robt. and Elleni Jeter, in
dicted for receiving stolen goods.
Buchanan & Hlanahan and Ragsdale
& Ragsdale for defense. Verdict
Guilty as to Robert Jeter, and not
guilty as to Ellen Jeter.
State vs. John Coleman, grand lar
eny. Defendant plead guilty.
Case of State vs. Abraham Cunning
ham, house breaking and grand lar
eny. Verdict-Guilty.
The Court then adjourned until 10
olock this morning.

binson are Married at Edgemnoor.
It has not often been our pleasure
to attend a prettier marriage than that
of Mr. Q. D. Wilhiford and Miss Addle
Robinson last Thursday. When the
party from Winnsboro left, a heavy
cloud was overhead and it had been
raining several (days previous. Al
though our young friend, who had
now concluded with Simonildes that
"of earthly goods, the best is a good
wife", had had mostly sunshine in his
life (and aheays good luck when he
had stretched his hands 'for all other
poSesins) we feared the good
omens would not be with him on this
the happiest day of his life. Never
theless, Thursday morning come with
the sun "tempering the hues and
hearts of all who walked in its rays";'*
a beautiful day it was; like Mr.
Grady's ideal Chrstnmas day it was
"shot to the core with sunshine", and
w hope we prophetic of the future
life of this young couple.
The ceremony took place at the home
of the bride's parenits, M\r. and Mt's.
Sidiey itobi nson, at Edgenmoor', a
prety little station on the G. C. & N.
R R., int Chester County, at 2 o'clock
in the afteriioon. The handsome par
lors and dining hail were artistically

Miss Robinson is the eldest daughter
of Mr. Sidney Robinson, of the firm
of J. M. Robinson & Bro., who has
large farming and manufacturing in
terests and is regarded as a very sue
essful man.
