Williford & Co. Local Nrle is -The criminal docket for the ap proaching term of Court is not very heavy. No murder cases so far to be tried. -No further clue ano theidentity of tL.e thief who attempted to enter Beatv's store Tuesday night has yet been fonnd. He was tracked for a short distance but the trail was soon lost. -The usual confusion incident upon the opening of school has been quickly gotten rid of this year at Mt. Zion. All the classes have been already ar ranged and the year's work mapped out. The rolls show a full attendance in all the departments. -Friday was a genuine September day, warm and sultry, but it was a relief from the cloudy and disagreea ble weather which we have been en joving for some tine. The rain has evidently stopped for a while and the fair weather which we hope will now continue will do the farmers a world of good. -Bestrades of cott on contintuc to bring about 7-35. This scems to be the present high water mark, though a number of cotton men have told us that it is their opinion that it is going to advance in pr'ce. They think tie. prospects of a rhe are extrenely favorable. Not a great deal has been brought to this niarket yet, but the daily receipts are increaing very rapidly. The wet weather has o; course had a great deal to do with snall receipta. KARL'S CLOVER ROOT, the oreat B:ood Purifier, gives fresihe ir hi.d clearness to the Complexion aid cures Constipation, 25c., 50c. For Sale at the Winnsboro Drug Store. . FoUL PLAr WAS SUSPECTED.-The Coronor held an inquest near town Thursday over the body of a negro infant which it seems had been buried nder rather suspicious circumstances. he body was exhumed, but a thorough xaminatioe revealed nothing to indi te that the infant was the victim of ul play. Its death was produced by tural causes. AKING IMPROYEMENT.- . 11. chin & Co. are fitting up the room ninig their dry goods store and d to use it to display their stock thing. The room is admirably to the purpose and the improve in- the arrangement of the stor-e considerable. Mr. Ketchin will leave fo'r the North in a few days to lay in a full stock for fall and wintea. * STORMWAIFS.-J. L. Cauthen shot and kille' a sea gull in the streets of * ~ Rockton im last Wednesday. Tbis waif had ejidently been blown up by - ~ .'the recent tsrm from the- coast.. A gentleman the same neighborhood calls attenition to the increase in the mosquitoes recently which he thinks were also blown~ up by the storm. Hie also remarks upon the size and verocity of these visiting "animals". A PARTY AT RIDGEWAY.-A large number of Mr. John A. Desportes' young lady and gentlemen friends went to -Ridgeway Thursday evening to attend a party given at the resi desce of his parents. This hospitable home was given up to the young people, and to say they enjoyed themselves is putting it mildly. Ridgeway was, of course, largely represented, and the affair was a gathering of the beauty and chivalry of the two towns. FOR LEBANON CHURCH.--An enter tainmnent consisting of charades, tab leaux, etc., will be given at the school -house near the parsonage of Lebanon Church on Thi'rsdg 28th inst., com -mencing at 6 p. nm. Refreshments will be served by the Ladies' Aid Society. The Chester string band will be in attendance and furnish music for the occasion. The proceeds are to be given to Lebanon Church. A large crowd is expected and the success of the entertainment is assured. COULDN'T GET THlE OPERA HOUsE. Manager Boag has refused to rent the opera house for the production of "Nevada" and consequently the idea of presenting the play in Winnsboro again has to be abandoned as no other suitable hall can be gotten. Mr. Wlag seems to think it more profitable to use the opera house as a wareroom, and it is probatble that the theatrical attrac ttons this winter will be very few and far between. We hope Mr. Boag will not cot clude to close the house perma nently as Winnsboro will then be cut off entirely from the theatrical world. See the world's Fair for Fifteen Cents.
