-WILL ISSUE CLEARING HOUSE
CERTIFICATS
A conference of the two banks was
held Monday evening, at the request
of the business men of the town and it
was decided to issue Clearing House
certificates for the purpose of moving
the cotton crop. The plan of the
Columbia banks will be followed
by depositing with trustees collaterals
to secure the payment of these cer
tificates in the proportion of three
dollars worth of securities to two
dollars in certificates. These certifi
cates will be received by tAe banks in
payment of loans and also on deposit.
This sacures the necessary medium
for moving the cotton crop. All tbat
remains is for the buyers t) perfect
arrangements with the banks and the
sellers to bring the cotton to market.
As soon as the certificates are printed
we will print a copy of one of them so
as to introduce the corrmnunity to a
new visitor who has come to belp us
all through these tight times.

the damage to the cr.p.is tin-t be very
great.
On Main street a great naiv of the
large trees were blown down and
ethers were stripped of their limbs.
But the greatest damage was done on
the side streets where the to, e received
the full forceof the wind.
The tin roofing on Thespian Hall
was blown off and the telegraph eftce
was flooded with water.
The minute hand on the north side
of the town clock was twisted off and
the one on the ea-t side was badly
bent.
A brick outhou-e in Dr. R. B. Han
ahan's yard was blown down.
Two lare walnut trees near the
the residence of Dr. W. E. Aikent were
plled tip by their roots.
An outhouse in Mrs. Nancy Cath
c.rt's yard was blown to the ground.
The rear end of the building oppo

panter shop, wai blown in.
Several large c -dar trees in Mr.
S. R. Johnston's front yard were
b'own across the pavement.
The tin roofing on the Winnsboro
Hotel was torn up in many places,
some of it falling to the street below.
The tin rooflng on the Beaty building
was also badly damaged.
Fences were blown down in all parts
of the towr, but are to.) numerous to
mention.
The large California Bit Tree in
front of Mrs. Rion's house, six feet
frona piazza gradually succumbed to
the storm and came up by the roots.
The tree was fifty ,ix feet high. For
tunately it fell to the northeast, and
only escaped the front of the piazz-L by
a few inches. The large beautifnl
ines and running roses are many of
them prostrate. A large Priale of
India is torn up by the roots in the
street in frot; a willow and Etnglish
walnut have beenz uprooted in the
yard, and the fencinig is ba:!ly damaged.
Ms. Jos. LeConte said this Big Tree
was scme years age the fintest speci
men she ever saw out of California.
The damage to the house would hare
been great if it had fallen on it.
A washout one mile above Rockton
was reported M1onday morning, but it
was not very large as the south-bound
train passed over it shortly afterwards.
