It ii by no means safe.
-it seems that base ball in W inns
boro is at quite a low ebb. None of
the erstwhile cranks seem to have the
energy to indulge in the sport this year.
We think this is an unwholesome
degeneration, as there is after all no
game like base ball. Why can't Winns

RIDGEWAY NOTES.
R1EGlwM, S. C., June 27--.-Since
my last, uothing special has occurred.
Wednesday last, being the regular day
of meetit~g of the Masonic Lodge here,
uite a goodly number of the brethren
ss1mbled. The work before the
odge being finished, the members re
aired to the house of Bro. Ruff Mc
Dwell, where under the shade of a
mages:ic o ik, might be seeni a table
tifficientlv long to accommodate some
wenty-five or thirty persous, upcn
which table was an abundance of
verything calculated to sharpen the
ppetite of the nmost fastidious. The
W. Mi. very nicely had all the busi
ness before the lodge transacted before
calling it from "labor to refreshments,"
for yo)u kn'w, Messrs. Editors, after
ndulging in a hearty meal, one feels
ittle like attending to business of any
kind.
The clouds have disappeared much
o the gratification of the farmecrs, and
the base ballists.
The first cotton bloem seen by the
writer was from the farm of Mr. R. D.
Belick-said bloom made its ap
pearance en the 23rd. By the by,
Mr. B. has as flue a prospect for both
orn and cotton as we have seen, and
hia crop) (notwithstaiiding the con
stant rains) is in line condition.
Great comp~aint of grass and
scarci'y of labor in certain sections
arsunid Ridgeway. As a genier~sl thing,
the greater portion of thc labor ii
said to be very triing.
The dispensary is still taliked of,
but from all we can hear there ap
pears to be considerable opposition to
e being established here.
It affords us much pleasure to be
able to say, that our old friend, Dr.
l. H. Edmnjods, who has been unwell
for a considerable length of time, and
who was quite siik a ceuple of diys
last week, is much better toda.mv
