We clip the following from the Columbia Register: This organization, which has proven its title to popularity by its excellent entertainment of last season, will give an entirely new performance at the Opera House o next Friday nigbt. The company has been augmented by new members and now numbers twen ty-six "artists," and the programme to be given at the entertainment is said by those who have a chance of judg ing, to be "immense." The musical portion of the entertainment will be specially fine, and will inclu-le selec tions by a new quartette and several solos. Thecostumes and scenery will be new an 'gorgeous" and an orches tra will a d to the enjoyment of the occasion. - It is safe tn say all who at tend will be delighted and those who fail to do so will miss a treot. B. P. s. No. 2. A new society has been organized in town by the young men. They met on Monday the 18th inat, and effected a permanent organization by electing the following officers: 0. R. Withers, President ; J. H. McMaster, Vice President; C. S. Matthews, Se-:retary and Treasurer. Exactly what the object of this society is, Is as yet a mythe to the outside world. But we nuderstand that ostensably it has for l its prime object the promotion of brotherly lore. Taking the personnel 1 of the Society as data upon which to 1 form an opinion, we think the quali fying adjective brotherly entirely out of place. And a still stronger confir mation of this view is found in the I name they have chosen-B. P. S. No. 2 A society was formed by the girls some years ago.' It originated as t a Secret Society and rnirabile dicdu the girls have falified their recoid for it is still a secret. This femenine B P. S., we take it, is No. 1. The i baby organization admit that they are to hold a secondary place by the figure they place after their niame. And t we think the figure they will cut will be smal; indeed. The addition of the I No. 2 after them is very suggestive of the part they will play in the dance when they come in contact with No. I. We haven't the slightest dontt that thel will play a second fiddle, and a 2 very weak second at that. The old I -ao~-- ha'dance must pay the fiddler. ioo~ out - -, body else will do the dancing and you have to settle with the fiddler. The 2 Society gave a moonlight picnic on y Monday night. The fiddling has corn- ~ mnenced. We await with curiosity the result. -Don't forget the Columbia Min stres. The press of the State speaks very high of them. CEDAR CREEK. August 24. Gool seasons for the 1 last few days. Cotton beginning to open. Fodder about half pulled. Turnips up to a good stand. The evaporation of sorghum has corn mue. wHITE OAK.F August 23. The weather for the past week has been favorable for housing fodder and most farmers are about through pulling and are now ready to begin in earnest to gather the cotton crop. Cotton has not made. much progress since our last. In some places it is still blooming pretty freely, though, while in others it has almost eased making and is opening rapidlv. There have been four bales sold here and brought from 11 cents~ to 12 cents. From what' the farmers say we may; expect it to comec in freely next week. Potatoes and gardens were greatly imi proved by the late rains. The tomatoe, crop has been improved by the warm dry week. Unfortunately the Can niig Factory ran out of cans, but have te legraped for more and expect to resume operations Monday or Tues day. The labels have arrived and when put on show up pretty.
