It turns out that the bequest of Mr Clemson cvill aggregate about $92,001 for the etablishment of an agricul tural college. It seems to us that I the farmers of the State really wan an agricultural college that they no have every opportunity of obtining it and proving by its operation that tin agriculturtd interests of the State wil be benefitted. thereby. Ninoty-t w< thousand dollars is a good round sum and would establish a coliogo with al necessary buildings, inplements, etc. for the prosecution of the work There are many colleges in this lan that have done 'a vast deal of good that had far loss than ninoty-two thou sand dollars to begin with. Then we see no reason in the world for an: delay in the matter, except the nec: cary delay in organiz'ltiou and equip m)ent. But the question as to whether thi State should accept this gift and.endov the Clemson college is a very difl'eren matter. According to the terms of the vill there shall be thirteen trustees, scvc of which are - appointed in the wil "with the power to fill all vacancie from any cause in perpetuity," and I is expressly denied to the State th4 poner to take awap or abridge thih powers and number, but the Stat( may provide through the Legislatur< as it sece proper on accepting th donation for the appointment of sio other trustees. It' the State does not accept I then the property goes to tIle seveAl trustees appointed in the will to-erec, a school at Fort Hill, the principa benefit to be derived therefrom t< com from an agricultaral training it will be seen that the trustees up pointed in the will are more in numboi than those allowed to the State by one This will forever put it beyond ti control of the State.
