look into the sanitary condition of the

plaints, but the hog question was one
of great moment last summer.

what wvas done shows that the people
of the county are aroused on the sub
ject. This will insure goods results.

the Rockton Railroad1 be extended to

A FALSE RUMOR.--It was currently
rumored on the streets on Friday that
a negro named Ira Smith, formerly a
waiter at the Winnsboro Hotel, had
been poisoned by a\ Woman named
Anna Woodward, living back of the
hotel. Investigation showed that the
rumor was probably false.' Ira had.
fillea himself with.whiskey, and in his
delirium be mado the charge against
the woman. As he suffered no serious
consequences,-it Is presumed that his
charge is false.

CATAWBA FALLS.-Speaking of the
water power to be found on the Ca
tawba River, in this county, the bodk
of resources pf So.uth Carolina says:
'The upper canal is the property
cf Mrs. S. A Boylston, of Winnsboro.
[t is one of three-quarters of a mile
long on the west side-of the Catawba
river. The'toal fall is fifty-one feet.
There are two flights of locks; the
lower one has four locke, 83 feet lift;
the upper has two locks, 15 feet lift.

four factory sites, with ample build

is at hand. The available power is
