FUN FoR CIIUSTMA.--A plan is now being consummated whereby our riti zons who desire to do so can have some fun on Monday of Christmas I week. It is proposed .to have at the race track, near town,'a series of races for 'county-bred horses, for. small purses, together with a fine pigeon shooting match.. All parties are cor dially invited to participate in either of the contests. The men bal;king the scheme will spare no pains to make both entertainments successful. " MCMASTER. DRICE & KETCHIN. Tim DISPCTED.LINIi.-Tho disputed line between North and South Caro hua on the boundary of York, Mock lenburg and Union counties is again the subject of a inessage from the Governor. We join with the News and Courier in saying: It is to be hoped, for the sake of the good people who live in the disputed territory, that the new boundary line between North and South Carolina 3 shall be run, when .it is run, as far' north as possible. There is -no place .3 on earth lIke South Carolina, and there is no climate anywhere in tihe United ( States that Is so pleasant all the year round as that which we enjoy. By all means, therefore, let the State lines 8 be pushed out as far as practicable in every direction, in order that as many of our neighbors as are within reach a may hereafter share our unspeakable ad vantages. What a blessed thing it I would be for the whole country, by the way, if this blessed Palmetto State extended to the- St. Lawrence and tue o Mississippi rivers, at least. It did ex- b tend to the lFather of Waters, -o'nce upon a time. JEIDGEWA*Y NO2.d The decision in the Virginia case gave general satisfaction to the people in this cornmiunity. They look upon it as a correct solution of the consti tution iluestion involved. TIE NEWS AND HERALD havIng said that the horse wans sixteen feet high holds toL its opinion. Consistency is a jewel, and we admire THE~ NEWS AND HERALD for it, but the reasoning by which it attempts to show that it whts right and the court wrong is merely a fanciful play upon words. The point It makes is that although a State can not bie sued, yet the officials of a State may be enjoined from enforcing the lawvs of the State. This is simply I a distinction without a diff'erence, and a n's such was clearly set forth by thd court. Obviously the doctrine as now e established is right. If a State calfinot a, be sued straigtout it ought not to be liable indirectly. This Is- a~ common sense view.of the case, and as it is unquestionably right, we see no reason C for trembling about the future repub- C lie, and in fact do not, for the old , American eagle can still flap and the country is in no danger whatever. The ladies of Longtowvn church gave a hot supper- at the- residence of Mr. David Tidwell on Wednesday, Novem bor 30th, Quite a number from this place atended and woro highly a pleased with what they saw, with thme f0 treatment they got from the Longtown people and with the supper. The f' object of the supper was to raise money for erectIng (or helping to erect) a parsonage. It was quite a success, as the net proceeds reached. well on to $75. The stores areo all filld with Christ- *, mias goods, and we are all expecting a in fine, large time. It is eminently proper th at we should be merry oft this occasion, for it is just at the time when .balances are struck, and it is evident from the amount of .goode sold, and cotton 'etc., brought In, that neArly everybody will have admething to their orodit. It is rumored that a palrty. of the yo- citizens of the place, headed by 0 foD., propose to get up a ball before r the liidays are over--something tbm&t d will "snow under" the military'of d Winneboro. - Aimiwell - last Stn4ay.
