Sr., received a letter on- the 18th inst., from the Fair banks Standard Scale Company, of Albany, N. Y., asking for quotations on l.is gins in job ipts, for the purpose of shipping them to Russia and Turke stan. . We hope Mr. Elliott may strike a trade with this 'ompahy. It shows his glis have a good reputation away from home. -Let some one take up the "Ly ceum" idea, advanced in our last. Every body says it is a splendid idea, and we want to see it successful. It is an easy matter to do. Let a meet ing of the- Mount Zion Society be called to consider the matter imme diately, as the winter months are the best time for such entertainments. -The Lancaster Ledger reports the robbing of the store of Mr. W. J. Johnston of that place. The porter with an accomplice, by means of a key diade by' himself, carried off a considerable sum of money-all of which was recovered. II AID SooIETY.-The ladies of Winns boro, agreeably to appointment, met an Thursday afternoon1 and formally organized the Mount Zion Aid Society, the object of which was stated in our last issue. The following officers were elected: President-Mrs. Jas. A. Brice. Vice-President-Mrs. I. N. Withers. .Secretary and Treasurer-Mrs. W. HI. Flenniken. The Society will have -regular meet ings, announcement of which will be made from time to time. MILITARY BALL .AND RECEPTION. One of the pleasantest anticipations of this season is the ball and reception of the Gordon Light Infantry, on Decem ber 8th. At a meeting on Thursday night the following committee was appointed to supervise the ball and issue Invitations, none of which will be issued in town, for the re'asoni that all home people are hereby invited and expected to attend: Licnt. J. IH. Cummings, chairman ; Liout. J. W. Seigler, Serg. T. W. Landerdale, Privates M. .W. Doty, E. M. Wilson, S. B. Crawford and A. M. Withers. Th'le members expect to make this one of the "most swollen~ of swell" occasions, and every body in town irrei:.cetive of dancing proclivities is expected to be present and enjoy him self or herself, for ample opportunity will be given. This will be a fitting dedication of their handsome armory in the bank building, and it is an occasion that will be ahxiously antici pated by the many- friends of the G. L. 1.'s at home and abroad.
