ZorB RAOX Gum BPARIEI. NQt seeing anything reported from this section, I will endeavor to send you a few items. The past few. days have been very wet-in fact the heavi est rains of the season fell on Monday. The land is washed at a terrible rate soul planteri who have .plaited on botm land losing corn and. lad too. We could very well have spared Peru a few showers and then had Ilenty left.- The farmers are very well ad vanced in farm operations-a good quantity of corn being already planted. The fruit prospect just now promises well, and if no more. frost comes we will have plenty this summer. The health of this section Is gen - erally good, but we have had the usual amount of coIns, etc., but not many serious cases. On the 23d uit. a most shocking accident occurred at Simpson's Turn out. As the north bound passenger train was nearing the station Lucy Moore, in company with two othor colored persons, was coming from a funeral and walking on the railroad, the wilid being very high at the time, the train ran up very near before they discovered it. All three of the col ored persons at once got off the track and Lucy Moore ran some forty or fifty yards to a crossing and attempted to cross the track when she struck her foot on the rail and fell, just before the engine, wl ich vas now In thirty feet of her, and although the engineer was slowing up to stop at the station, he could not stop in time to save the unfortunate woman. The engine struck her and literally crushed her to pieces, carrying her about twenty-five reet, leaving her in the middle of the rack with scarcely a whole bone in her body. Tier head was completely prushed and her brains were scattered around for several feet-a most shook lng sight. There could be no blame attached to the engineer as he could by no means stop his train,- and he sould not have known that the woman would have gone on the track after getting ofi. Coroner Hinnant was promptly on the spot and held an in-. guest. The jury found a verdict ity accordance with the facts andeoy sting the railroad frpW 1 Alilame. rhere are many and -confilcting state ments concerl!f this accident, but the abov9.v a correct one, as the writef~if this was in thirty feet of the weihan when she was killed, and saw the whole horrible affair.
