Oct 27-tf* -The Southern Telegraph Companiy has distributed the wires along the track of the Charlotte, Columbia & Augusta Railroad, and the promised additiojal wire will be up shortly and ready for use. The company is doing a flourishing business along this line. -Would it not be advisable for the authorities of the'Charlotte, Columbia & Augusta Railroad to advertise the south-bound train due at Winnsboro at 4.65 p. in. Instead of 3.55 p. In.? It is hardly oi thne, as the schedule now stands, and it would be better really to let the traveling public know when to expect the train. These irreg ularities complalued of are probably due to the conduct of the Richmond & Danville connection; but something should be done in the premises. -Messrs. R. J. PF~nNRY CASEs.-The prelimiinary examinations in four eases for perjury were held by different trial justices in the county last wveek. All of these cases waru-ont upLll and will lbe tried * at the February term of the Court of General Sessions, One of the parties liasgiven legal bail, the second leg bail, and the remaining two have booni placed tn the custody of the sheriff. TI EACuJEns' MIEEIN.-The umeot lug of teachers at Mount Zion College onm the 7th inst. was slimly attended and very little business of public interest was transacted. It seems impossible to arouse much enthusiasm among the teachers throughout the county on the anbject and the school commissioner is somnewhlat, discouraged at the outlook, Other efforts may yet be madec in the same direction. LICENsING Doos.-Mr. George 11 McMaster has introduced a bill in the - Legislature to require a license to keep a dog and provide for the disposition of the fbnd arising therefrom. This bill proposes to levy a tax of one (do1 lar on each dog kept and to apply the proceeds to the repair of highwvays. By the provisions of the bill, the -superintendent of highways are au thorized to kill all dogs running a! large unlicensed. The bill was do feated. fred tthe South Carolina College aeexpected home on Saturday, the 15th inst, to spend the Christmas hioll days. Them annual commencement ox. ercises of the College will be held on next Wednesday, the 19th inst. The Fairfld young ladles and gentlemen in other institutions will probably takt this opportunity for hurried trips t0 their homes. All applicants will bear ii mind the fact that they will be requirce -to stand an examination upon the "Arl of School Management". ThLis work has been a long-felt need atnong the teachers and contains much that will be of practical benefit to the teacher in the conduct and government of his school.
