Brown of this place, died on the 30th ult., in the six ty-third year of her age. Mrs. Brown formerly lived in Winnsboro, and she here had many friends who will regret to learn of her death. PERSONAL.-The Rev. R. G. Miller, of Albion, in this county, assisted the Rev. John T. Chalmers in the commu nion services at the Associate Re formed Presbyterian church on last Sunday. The Rev. Mr. Miller preached forcible and telling sermons in the morning and evening on the "Suffer ings of Christ" and "The Resurrec tion". Mr. Miller is a young minister of much talent, and now the popular pastor of a flourishing congregation in the northern portion of the counity. lie promises a career of honor and usefulness. A SEvEREV STAn.-Nathan Smith, on last Wednesday night, was severely and perhaps mortally -stabbed by one Jolhn McCampbell, near Ridgeway, in this acounty. Trhe stabbing occurred at a niegro frolic and originated in a difficulty in which several p)artics were participants. Smith was stabbed in the side with an ordinary pocket knife, and lie is 3et in a very critical condition. The woeunde~d man has w. some chances of recoverf, but it is at Vthis time impossible to foreshadow the consequences of the cutting. ANOTHER BuUGLAY.-The residence of John Smith, colored, in this place, was broken iuto and entered by un known burglars on last Sunday night. When discovered, they were in the I bed-room of the owner, with lights, ran~sacking trunks and other articles of furniture. Smith was awakened by the noise, and when getting up the burglars put out their light tand made good their escape. Three men consti tuted the party- -one at least of them was recognizead to be a white man, the others niot being distinctly seen. Smith shot six times at the party while escap ing and thinks that he succeeded in wounding one of them. Othier at tempted entrances were made on the same night in the vicinity oj Smith's residence. Every effort possible will be made to ferret out the perpet:'ators of the crime and bring them to trial. Is there an organized band of rob hers and burglars in the community ? It looks so. Energy anid determnina tion may solve the problem. INFAO~s.Thefnday.Hews con aisa full text of Judge Bond's re cent decision in1 the election cases upon the question whether conspiracy is ani infamous offence and as such should be tried upon the presentment of a grand jury. Judge Bond decided that the offence charged was not what is known as an infamous crime, and hence the party charged could be arr'aigned and tried upon an information filed by the district attorney. The test, according -tb Judge Bond, is whether a convic tion carries with it any civil and p~olit ical disability. TIhe section under whIch the defendants are indicted (does not impose such disability, and hence the concltision that conspiracy is not "Iinfamous" under the lawi. Judge Bryan dissenated, anmd in thme course of his opainion, spoke eloquenttly anid feel ingly of the constitutional right of the citizen to be tried uipont the present ment of a grand jury. The opinion of Judge Bond runs counter to the cur rent of judicial decisions, and( Jud~ge Bryan's dissenting opinion carries the case to the United States Supreme Court with strong prIobabilities of a reversal.
