The Carlisle men won the real victory
in the skirmish of the flgb (, by secur
ing a viva vocc vote upon the noiniita
Jion. In this way, every ieiber was
thrown upon his mettle, ald, cast ing
Ins vote publicly, an accounting would
have to be made to his conustituency
for his vote in the caucus. Carlisle
won and splendidly too, t, (lie very'
first onset, receiving 106 votes against
52 for Raidali aid 30 fo Cox-a ma
jority of 24 over both his oppoieits.
This was a signal triumph for the free
tra*de wing of (lie par'ty, when it is
remembered thiat all of the Carlisle
forces were revenuie reformers, and
all the Cox membteis, wvith the excep
