A0URW01-EURE. REMOv TUB ODD CAwn.-If it hi not already been donethe bearing canei of strawberries and blackberries conk not be removed, It is known that th now worthless old wood draws for itt vitality upon the general store of th< root, and whatever it abstracts is s< muchdtaken from the young cane s thal will bear fruit next year. If they (th< old canes) are removed it will give tU young ones a better chance, and givc better opportunities for working the ground, crestroying weeds and grass, and keeping the ground in proper order. A sharp, long-handled hook is the proper thing to use in cutting out the old canes, and if this is attended to nnw whila they are still green they out comparatively easy. If the hands are protected by a pair of strong buckskin gloves the work may be done more easily now than at any other time, and there is as much leisure to do it now as will be likely to be found any time. The new wood may be out back some if it is very tall, and if stakes or supports are needed they may be put in place. The right time to set out new plantations of these fruits is in late Otooer after the leaves have all fallen. This month is a good time to not out a strawborry bed, and if there are none on your premises take advan tage of the season and set out some. I -Out of eight3 -one great smokers ex aminied in France by a medical expert, twenty-three are reported as exhibiting an intermittent pulse, independent of i any cardiac lesion, and this intermitten ey disappeared on the smoking habit being abandoned. The effects of smok iug on children from 9 to 15 years of age show not only palpitation and intermit tent pulse, but chloro anwonia. The results of observation in this line in re spect to women smokers-some forty to fifty cases--show that most of them suffered from disturbances of menstrua tion and digestion, and about one-fifth of the number presentod very marked intermittency of the pulse, without any lesion of the heart. These latter defied all methods of treatment, however skill ful, frequent or prolonged, the difficulty yielding only with the suppression of the habit. (ono Nevr to toturn. GARD NlhRi.
