AGRIOUm'URE.
No AIIMAL can remai9 in a condition
of health and vitality. without a suffi
cient quantity of a combination of foods
or of a food containing all the elements
or constituents to properly nourish the
animal. The bone, muscle and tissue
must be fed in proportion, and the fuel
furnished In the carbon which supplies
the 1 eat. The vital forces abound in
the nitrogenous or glutinous and the
phosphatic elements, which should be
supplied liberally to all animals, prop
erties which are Sound in corn in a very
small degree. Salt, as we stated be
fore, through ncelianical agerces. en
courages t he absorption of a large quan
tity of water,so that the food is convey
ed in such a ecnsistenoy of liquidity
that it is easily and readily absorbed as
nourishment. The food of all animals
requires a cartain degree of bulkiness in
proportion to its qualities of nutrition,
and the salt aids in this expansiveness
as indicated above. An exercise or la
bor develops the muscle, so the grasp
of the digestive argan, upon a sufficient
volume of available food invigoratesand
increases their power of utility. Wheat
bran, oats and the coarse kind of prov
ender combine the properties cf nutri
tion suited to the best results of growth
and development and bulkinec s of
food.
IN hay-making in general the stack
or mow should be covered one foot or
more in depth with dry straw. Home
moisture will evaporate daily for several
weeks after cutting and storing. ]n the
bright sunshine the moisture will pass
off into the air, but at night, unless tb >
surface is cuvereii with some perfectly
dry material, it will condense so soon
as it meets the currents of colder air.
The lack of this prec iutisn is the occa
sion of heavy lovses both in hay and
grain. We have occasionally soon
thoughtless farmers throw a few fork
fuls of wet hay or grain on top of a
mow, with the idea that such a position
was the best place to facilitate its dry
ing. On the contrary, damp hay thus
placed will usually u et down and sp' il
more fodder than was contained in the
lot originally damoged. If there is any
part of the field of hay not fully dried,
it may be plaoad at the bottom of the
mow with little danger of injury if a
sufficient quantity of thoroughly-dried
material is pitched upon it to absorb
the moisture.
PARK's Floral Aagazine gives the
following directions for propagating the
rose: "Take a young brane', cut a slit
just below a leaf-bud, put the branch
through the hole in a common flower
pot until the slit in the bark is inside
the pot, thou fill the pot with sandy
soil, set it on the g round, bending the
branch and I inning it down without
breaking; keep the pot well watered
and the branch will root in a few weeks
then out outside the pot without dis
turbing tne roots. The large white
rose and many others that do not root
easily from a slip can bo propagated in
this way, as can also most shrubs and
woody plants. Of cou.so, it will be un
derstood that the branch should be
pushed upward until several inches tre
above the rim of toe pot, anld the earth
pressed tightly around it, the sam as
though pettli g an~ ordinary p)lant. The
pomnt to be observed is to leave the
branch unlsevered, so that it may draw
strength from the parent root, until its
owvn roots are started. Leave it uindia
turbed in the p,t ini tihe cellar until
niext spring._______
PEAS IN TIrE FALL --The way to raise
the linest quality of peas is, aft.or the
first sowing, to plant them deep aind
mulch them, so that the soil they root
in is always cool and moist. In the
careless mannier in wich peas are fra
qluently cultivated they have very little
flavor and dlelioney. It is so with rats
ing wvhat is called the snap-short beans.
They aro neldomi plantedl deep enough,
and as a consequence have 1no more fla
vor than a pice of india-rubber andl
are about as tough; b)ut the beans plan
ted in September, and in duo1 time for
sale in our markets, are really deheious
in flavor and fairly melt in the mouth.
This is the result of eDoI soil. Bunt were3
these beans planted three and four inchi
es deep, as we have more lhan once
sulggested(, thuroughout the season, and
mulched in the hottest plortion of it,wo
could have, as with theO peas, these veg
etablos at all times up to November to
perfect ion.
MILK hlas two p)rinceipal elements, fats
and e.rein, or eesec. While the but
ter may, and does, add largely to tihe
value of the ahoese, when made, the re
verse is nct true with the butter, andI
every step in its manufacture shoulti he

COLIC in hioises is olten brought on
by feeding hay passed through coirn
stalk cutters, mixed with meal, mid
dlings or bran, then wet up. Tholi horAo
eats this food thus prepated so rapidly
that it is not properiy masticated, anid
conReqiiointly becomes so clodded in the
stomach as to cause indigestion, fol
lowed by olic, more esp)eially if dI
rtectly after eating lie is allowedi to
drink heartily of water; and the colder
this is, so much the more liable it is to
(d0 harm.
PASTUnE ought to bo had for hogs.
They will be all tihe bealthier for having
the rn of a goort clover p)asture, but
they will lay on flesh faster when kept
in close confinement and fed all the hay

To ANY one who can stand the nloise,
a flock of guineas is a good thing to
have on a farm. They arne very great
layers, a p)rotection against hawks, and
they are saidi to be the best extermin
ators of fnsec's that can be raised on a
farm.
Tun India wheat crop is. said to be lori
ger than ever before. Thle export of
wheat from that far-off country has
greatly increased within a few years, and
Indications are that India, rather than
Russia. will be our chief competitor in
supplying Europe_with bread.

NENT in its treatment and cure.
No matter by what name the complaint may be

syphllis, ulcers, sores, tumors, botil erysipelas or
salt rheum, diseases of the lungs, ddneys, blad
der, womb, skin, liver, stomach or bowels, either
chronic or constitutional, the virus la in the Blood
which supllles the waste and builds and repairs
these organs and wasted tissues of the system.
If the blood is unhealthy, the process of repair
must be unsound.
The SaesaDarlillian Resolvent
Not only is a compensating remedy, but secures
Ihe harmontous action of each of the organs. It
establishes throughout tleentire system function
al harmony and supplies the blood ves
sels with a pure and healthy current of
new life. Tun SKIN, after a fow days' use
of the Sarsaparillian, becomes clear and
beautiful. Pimples, blotches, black spots and
ftin eruntions are removed; sores and ulcers soon
cired. Persons sufferng from scrofula eruptive
diseases of the eyes, mouth ears, legs, throat and
glandi, that have accumulaled and xpread, either
from uncured diseases or mercury, or from the
use of corrosive sublimate may rely upon a cure
if the Sarsaparillian Is continued a suffllient time
to make its impression on the system.
One bottle contains more of the active prinol.
plea of Medicines than any other Preparation.
