piney woods around Butralo'church.
It is supposed they subsist chiefly
there, at this sdaon, on acorns and
pine-muitt. For a turkey dinuet' at a

-Many farmers in this section, as
elsewhere in the county, have yet their
wheat to sow, and but few have fin
ished planting a full crop of red oats.
We readily attribute this delay on the
farim to harvesililg the late excellent
crops adil to the recent incessant rain
fai)1 which also detained thtl plough
man with his furrow.
-Walter Russell, the oldest son of
Mr. J1. . Black, met with an accident,
on Tuesday the 9th inst. by shootiig
his left haud with a pistol, though for
tunately, as it happened, not seriously.
It is generally the custom at all coun
try schools for the fires to be made
anid replenished in rotation by the inule
scholars, and, his inorning for kindling
comin hround, he left home hastily to
perform his prescribed duty. About
this time two of Mr. J. R. Broom's
boys came to school and brought along,
with them a Christmas weapon, as
inutually understood by these youth

tance, and blazing a tree, they intend
ed to learn the u.ie of firearms, when
Walter, 1lnding some difficulty in pull
ing dowin, carelessly placed the other
hand uvbr the muzzle, when his hand

was gradually Improving. . There was
no11 fracture of the bone, but doubtless
a scar will ever remind him of school
days and show to others the evil of
