--Forest trees are dying in several
parts of the county for want of rainl.
-Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday nights were elegant for
sleeping.
-Mr. D. V. Walkerleft on Thurs-!

pleasant visit.

-Mr. Samatuel Stirling died near
Blackstock, Chester conity, July the

was born it County Antrim, Ireland,
Novemlber 16, 1797.
-The Carolina Mase Bail Club has
ordered teautilul uiifurmins in whill
to play the Chester iA) on the 10th of
Augist. We iaype lhiy will 1101 go to
Chester and disgrace their "pretty

-Tfim Rev. J. P. Kennedv. Presi

spot several days in Winnqboro. He
was electe( to succecA thi lamented
Dr. Boiner, and will vortilly wear
his inatle.
-A new comet has been discovered
In the constellation Auriga, the same
place at which the one iow yb-ible
first appeat'ed. The Riew comet will
be in perihelion about the middle of
August, it is said, ati which time it
may become visible to the linked eye.
At present it is telescopic.
-Thanks for an invitation to be
present a1t the reunion of the 60th iegi
ment, S. C. V., in Chester on tile 4th
of AuguSt. The three previous re
unions have beeni very enjoyable, and
this will be equally a success. The
. ev. Dr. Boggs, of Atlanta, will de
liver the annual address, while the
hospitality of Chester Is proverbial.
-Pleasant rains have fallen in sev
eral parts of the county in the past,
few days. Winnsboro and Iidgewav
and their respective vicinities have not
yet been blessed. It is very diflielnt
to get a correct estimante of 'the cro-ps
in Fairfield. While in some parts
they are worse than ever belre, in
others they are doing well. They are
better in the eastern aml western sec
tions and worse inl the dividing ridge
int the middle of the county. All alorg
the lie of the railroad the outlook is
bad.
