medal was won by Asheville.
THE ,KWN PARTY.-The lawn party 0
on Thursdgy night was in every way I
a success. Though the day had beeui t
dreadfully :hof, about dark a little 8
breeze spragl up, and the rest of the S
evening proved unexpectedly pleas
ant. The grounds at Mr. Reynolds'
residence were beautiftily lighted
with seemingly inntinmerable Chinlese
lanterns, and presented a lively and
pretty appearance. The raeeshments
were served in proffsion by the I
ladles, and everybody seemeaNd to have 1
a pleasant time. Financially, too, the
entertainment was quite a suiccess-Ja
liandsonie sum being realized.
DEATIXS.--MIrS. Ilerietta Fuller
Davis, wife of (ol Jno. B. Davis, died
at Blythewood last. Vedlesday, ater ai
brief illness. .She had been somewhat s
in1sp ised, but on the day before her
death she seemed much better and ini a
fair way to be Very soon in usual I
health. On Wednesday morning, ,t
however, her symjptons assumied an
alaringi character. ase brathS~ied
her last about three o'clock that aftr
stoon. I11cr remains were taken to )
Beanfort, to be interred in, the fEnnily -1
burial-ground. Mrs. Davis was a iative
of Beaufort, and was married shortly
after the war. She had lived in Fali
ield for many years, several moniths
of this time being spent in' Win nsboro.
She was a lady of' many high qalsides
-combining great strength of charac
ter with equal sweetness of disposi
ion--and in the different relations of a
wife, mother and sister, these quali
ties showed themselves ini spite of' her '
innate modesty. 11cr death is a severe
blow to hoer husband atad four' children,
which Is only softenod by the deecp
sympathy felt by a large circle of warm.

the facet that the dieath of Mirs. Davis
was preceeded only about a week by
that of Miss Ann Fuller, a sister who
had bein for a long time her constamnt
companion. Miss Fuller's health had
been failing for somne time, and her

friends.
Mrs. Engenia Newton1 who forrrier
ly -lived in Winnsboro, but moved
to Charleston some months ago, died
in that cit~y last wek. Mrs. Newton
wvas for several years a residenmt of
Winns.boro, and made nmany firiendsi e
heire. She was a lady of nmny amdin- I
ble qualities-,-and was a de'Yout nmem
beir of the Methodist chrcuh. Duiring
her stay here she was a member of the
church choir, and her sweet, aritihc
and at the same time devotional sing~
ing was gener'ally admuired. ~1me ivas
