It was in the Northrnm sky not far above the hori. b zen, and both nucleus and tail were plainly visible. It is not expected t o be visible many nights longer'. 1No one expeccted this celestial visitor, and astronomers have not yet definItely ea decided whether it is a stranger or an old friend. Thme Newv York IHeral-d ai says it Is probably the comet of 1807, which it was thought would not r'e turn for nineteen hundred years. Those astronomers were pretty badly out in their estimates if this is the same body. The earth passed through the plane of the comnet's orbit on the 19th, and Prof. Parkhurst says if .the comet had been a little faster and had collided with the earth, and had been , of nitroglycerine, Mother Shipton's prophecy about the end of the world would have been verified. All fear of comets has passed away. They are such i gaseous light substances that stars can be seen through them, and the whole conermn, tail and all, does not weigh as much as a good sized cannon ball. .C..WOMAN to coqk for a small family;, and make herself genoriy useful.
