This team ought to make a fine score. Mr. Elder broke forty-eight out of fifty balls in four conseutive practice matches before he left. AN Oursaxon.-Th'Ie advertisement of the Singer Sewing Machine was accidentally omitted in last Tuesday's Issue. Of course, everybody knows about the "Singer," and knows too that it is a flrst-class machine, but we don't want people to think that such a good thing has been left out of the columns of TuE NEws AND lhERAL> a'paper that delights to advertise, and torcommend to its readers, every ~thing that is really good-like the SSinger Sewing Machine. Tuic TWIN BED-SPRING.-Attention is called to the advertisement of the "Twvin Bed-Spring Company'," sent out as a supplement to THE NEws AND HRtALD. This spring is constrncted upon a new principle calculated to produce elasticity, evenness and dura bility, anid is said by those using It to ( be all that is claimed for it. The tes timonials given in the advertisement f embrace the names of wvell-known cit izens of Abbeville, and speak well for the merits of the article. The springs can be examined and ordered at the store of Mr. James W. Bolick. ALL FoR CA4SH.-Such Is -the signifi cant heading of the new advertisement of Mr. John L. Mimnnaugh, of the "Augusta Store," appearing in this Issue. He announces that he has In store eight thousand dollar.' worth of goods, which he desires to clear out, and that in order to do so he will offer them at very low figures. Dry goods In groat varIety--lawns, jaconets, buntings, plques, table damasks, bleached shirtings - notions, fancy goods, spool cotton, blacking, soap, eastors, clocks, tobacco, kerosene, etc., e., will be found among his stock, and he wants to sell them--"all for cash." JENKINVJLLE, June 13. - Events worthy of a place in afirst-class news. paper like THE NEWs' AND HERAlp are of rare occurrence in this section. Yet there are exceptions to this rule. T'he question uppermost, at present, in the minds of the people in this neigh borhood is temperance, and so thor oughly are they aroused on the sub. lect that petitions to the Legislature asking the prohibition of the sale of spirituous liquors as a beverage are being almost unanimously signed. It the 'people in other portions of the State are as determined in this crusade as they are here we should say that the hand-writing might be "traced on the wall," and that the days of the "tyrant grog" wore numbered, We have suffered here peculiarly at the hands of the liquor traffic. A few years ago we had a flourishing Young Men's Christian Association, which like many other fair and promising institutions fell a victim to the power ful and hitherto unchecked influence of the greg-shop. The young crops are looking well, notwithstanding a drouth for the last four or five weeks. The wheat and oats crop have been somewhat cut off, and not a few of the farmers are dis couraged, holding that the indications are that the dose of twelvd weeks' drought of last year is to be repeated in this. There are others, however, who hold that the absence of ralin last year makes It all the more probable that it will rain this year, and a third class sit by and philosophically remind their brethren that prophecies, hopes and rears wvill have but little effect upon the hidden operations of the laws of nature.
