-The Fairfield Fire Engine Compa
ny were out practising on Thursday
afternoon. After the practice the
president "set 'em up" to the company.
-The Perpetual Reporter has just
returned from the country. le says

-Mr. W. HT. Donly is now filling
his new stand under the old Hotel
with a fresh stock of staple and fancy
groceries, which purchasers will do

TaE SoUTH CAROLINA COLLEGER.
At a recent meeting in Columbia of
the committee ap~pointed to inlaugurate
a movemnent for the formation of an
association of the Alumnti of the South
Carolina College, a reolution was5
adopted inviting the surviving alumni
of the institution prior' to the 1st of
January, 1874, and subsequent to the
1st of January, 1880, to meet in Co
lumbia on the first Monday of Decem
ber next, to effect the permnanenit or
ganization Of an alumni association.
An executive committee consisting of1
Messrs. J. 11. Rien, F. W. McMaster
and A. S. J. Perry was appointed to
extendl invitations and make the nec
essary arr'angements for said meeting.
The Ion. Leitoy F. Youmnans was
* invited t~o deliver an address suitable
to the occaision and a resolutioni was
adopted requestinag the executive coin
mittee to suggest a scheme for supp)lv
lng regular professorships for the de
partmnents of ancient and modern lan
guages with which the institution as at
present organized is not supplied.
TUE CIRCUIT COURT.-Thme business
of the Circuit Court since our last re
port was confined to the sentencing of
the prisoners, and the disposal of some
"matters of course" on the civil

On Thursday morning the prison
ers convicted wvere sentenced as fol
lows:
Nelson Savage, convicted of larce
- ny from the fild, one year at hard la
bor in the peittnttiary.
Edward Browvn, who pleaded guilty
of carrying a concealed deadly weca
pon, one month's imprisonment in the
county jail.
Joe. Robinson, convicted of grand
larceny, six months at hard labor in
the penitentlily.
Patience Ellison, convicted of arson,
imnprisonnment at hard Jabor in the
penitentiary for life.
*Primus Feaster, convicted of assault
and battery of a high and aggravated
nature, one year at hard labor in the
penitentiary.
