AN UNFOUNDED RUMOR.-There'has
been a rumor going the rounds In the
county, to the effect that there was a
tase of small-pox in Winnsboro. We
are authorized to state that the report
is without any foundation. Dr. E. W.
Aiken, the chairman of the municipal
fBoard of Health, has-made an accurate
uxamination of the negro woman who
is said to have had the disease, and he
isys she has not had it at all. So there
need be no further apprehension on the
subject.
REMOAL.-Mr. Wm. Donly has
Inoved to the storto formerly occupied
by Mr. John Johnston. Here he will
keep on hand a well assorted stock of
groceries, both staple and fancy,
which he will sell at the lowest prices
that the market can afford. He also
has an excellent stock of wines, 11
quors, cigars and tobacco. Mr. Don.
ly understands his business, and those
1 who favor him with their custom will
be pleased both as to quality and prices
of his goods.
CAMDEN AND RinGERWAY.-TIo Cam
den Journal of the 3rd inst. says: "Oi
lust FrIday a special train brought to
Camden Mr. J. 11. Fisher, Receiver of
the South Carolina Railroad, and
Messrs. J. B. Peck, J. J. Higginson,
T. B. Myers and T. A. Stout, officers
of the road. They came to look after
the Interest of the road at this point
and to consider the advantage of ex
tending it from here to Ridgeway or
Charlotte. A number of our promi
nent citizens met them at the depot,
and we understand that both routes
were discussed, but no decision was
arrived .at, though it was considered
that one of thorn was necessary, and
that It should be built as soon as pes.

The Columbia correspondent of the
News and courier furnishes the fol
lowing inforlpation in regard to the
State Lunatic Asylumt "Unider the
energetie management of Superintend
ent P. E. Gri fln the State Lunatic
Asylum is rapidly becoming the equal
of any like institution ini the United
States. The improvements ini build
Jngs and arrangements are numerous
and are going forward rapidly. The
section of the north Wing of the male
asylum, which is being built at the
cost of $28,000, will be completed
about the first of August, and will bd
occupied tynp~orar'ily by white female
patioents, although itis ttltimatel y in
tendended for males. The build intg is
very handsome, constructed of brick
with granite copings and is arranged
with special reference to the comnfort
of the inmates. The remainder of the
north wing has lately been put undet'
contract for $45,900, and is expected to
be completed in OIctober, 1882, The
Legislature has already appropriated
$25,000 toward the amount. The cen
tral building, which will unite the
now disjointed wings, will be built as
oon hereafter as the State can afford
it, and will~make the male asylum at
the head of1!imwood avenue a most
