THEIl LANDS1'oau. WATER POwvrt. Mr. James M. Stewart Has complot ed his maps aud charts of the Lands ford Water Power on the Catawba, recently su'rveyed by him. They are not mnerc surveyors' plats but aro got tenl up In tle hest engineering style. The Catawba River at that point is about five orsix hundred yar.tps wide, buLt by mcans of an-island a dam can be made much sliorter thi that. The existing canal is 9,995 feet, in length and fourteen feet wide, with two locks, giving a total fall of thirty feet. The projletctd canal is to be (Ifty feet wide, giving a fall or fifteen and a half feet at five thousand eet from its head, twenty-four feet at seven thousaid feet, and thirty feet at the end. Thie supply of water is practically ilhitit ed. Two surveys previoutsly imade give thr'ee inches less 'fall than 'Mr. Stewart makes it, but they were matte when the river was a tice lower. This, pewer is about. eight riles only fromii a railroad. Tihe property in owned jointly by Col. Davie, Capt. Al len Jones and Dr. T. C. Robertson of York, and Col. Edward McCrady of Charleston. They offer liberal indace monts to-capittalists to invest. TuR. SIXr CUwurr.-The Lancaster Leycder says: "There are rutinors mloat as to the asphiants for the judi ci-l ermine of the Sixth Circuit. Tbc General Asselnbly. at its next sitting in December, will be called 1pon to elect six or more jlidges to fill v'acan cies by r'cason of the expiration of the teiliure or ofile. The Sixth Circuit juid, cf.ip will thenl be filled by a iiew election for the ensuing four years. RI'eport says that among the iiumber who will'bc placed inl nomination by their respective friends, are lon. rT., J. Mackey, the present incumbent; H1on. J. J. TIemnphill, ofClhester'; 1lon. I. D. Witherspoon and Col. W. B. Wilson, of York; lon. 11. A. Gaillard, of vimnnsboro; and Hlon. J. ). Wylie, of Lancaster. We are not aware of the correctness of these runors as to any of the gentlemen named, but that ,he friends of two, at least, of the Candidates ill neigl.boring coitics, are thusearly throwing out 'feelers' cannot be denied. Who will lead the vani, at this early date, we cannot con jcture.
