LucaRNE.-Colonel Rion, who has
given much attention to lucerne, has
made an estimate of the yield per acre
from a patch which lie sowed on the
18th of February. The estimate is
made from a square, ten feet by tell,
on whieh the growth is below, rather
than above, the averacge. 'Thie lucerne
from this square, being cut aln. weigh
cd, was a fraction over iiuneteeni
pounds. Putting it, at. nineteen poinds
the yield per acre wvould( be 8,276
pounds. It is safe to sa;:. that the
half- Vacre paitc(h from which this was
___takeni would yield 4500) pounds--or

boro, that a band of fifty disguised
horsemen should have been Permitted,
undisturbed, to enter their town, and
occupy) it for several hours, with the
declared purpos of' putting in terror,
o' inflicting violence upon, the sworn
public officers of the county.
In this coiniection, it is proper that I
should call your attention to the recent
Act of Congressi, which mitakes all citi
zens who are privy to any acts 'of or
gaiized violeice, and f111il to give any
informiation in their possession, that
may lead to the arrest of Il he perpetra

public peace and to avoid blood-shed.
By the way, we imagine that this
State document reads as if' it Came
from the pen of Judge Mackey. The
Judge was at. that tine very thick with
Scott., and lie is sipposed to have
written the most important of tile car
pet-bagger's messages, etc. . We think
this letter sounds remarkably like some
that have appeared over the Judge's
own signature.
