The Thlespilan Ial was crowded to over'flowving, anid the au dienucc, attentive throughout, went -awvay delighted. Tom is certainly a musical prodigy, whose performnices have t~o be seen in orderi to be fully ap-. I raceiated. The chief feoinrer of thie perfiormance was his i mitafioni of an arrangeenut from the ''Bairbier of -e villhe," after it had been played once for him by Mrs. Colonel Rion. In our new Townuship Number FIf teen, cut out of old -Thirteen, things generally are progiressing smoothly, ,save now and then a ripple steals ZMoross its cahbneslby .some neighbor l'ot enticing" aunotheris hand to come ;live with him. Ther~ seems to be 'Odefect in the law Riit nov talids, - I I hope thiaLtt .Ili eveniity -all (bat isg. desIret.' I tiiic that if.we could teaoh neighbor Jonee to do itto heighbor Smiti as ho *ould have steighbor Smith do unto him, then the law as it stands would prove all iltat was claimed for it. But Iu case of a failure to graduate them in this golden rule, we will have to call on our flth era, "tihe lawmakers," to try again. Probably by making "Cuff" bear a little ponalty, the obtject of the law would lie more easily reached. Touch hin as well as t.he employer, and lie may stick more closely to his contracts. The farmers are making strenuous cftrts In their arrangements on the farm'this year, hoping to wipe out of existence the results of the disastrous year just past. But I venture to say that this particular vicinity will ire munimbor for some tine the effects of the failure of 1880. They start this presemit crop under so many disadvau tages that It is hard to tell which is dreaded the most, unless it be that of "roughness" for stock. I believe that four fbur-horse teams could with very little trouble, at one pull, move all the roughness (except hay that has been imlpIorted) 'within her limits. The scarcity of corn Is aii item also. The natural consequences of all this scarci ty will be many poor horses and mules. - Poor, poor indeed are t e chances for the horse this year. Mr. W. L. Rabb lost a horse a few davs ago from nll overdraught of water, and Mr. J. C. Morris a mule. We were all counitinur on our oats coming to our relief inl the middle or last of MaR. But., alasI we will have to cal culate again, for the oats crop seems tied to.mother earth still. Grain goi erally seens to be doing nothing. We have in this new township two large schools, one a graded whie school, wIichm is moving along finiely. The Principal, Mr. Scott., is an intelli gnt. gentleman and scholar, a good dis ciplinarian, and one calculated to ad vaico the educational interests of this neighborhood. Success to himit an1d his school. Tie other is a colored school under the supervision of a staunch, straiglitout Democrat. Now you see that Number Fifteen, not like the "Dark Corner," has taken things into her own hands, and has put Democrats ii the places of trust. And I'll venture to say that you won't hear of the closing of the session of any school in it Cl with tlhe grand finale "llang J.f1i Davis oi a limb." ll: this proressive age it really seemits that evei the wee-wee folks are keepi igl apace with the. times. The Childreni of Mr. Scott's school had an A pril-fol's party over here on Friday night the ist. Soon after dark you could see the little folks wending their way to the sclool root with escorts fron the siz- of' Tom Thumb to a six footer. A t halt past seven the school bell gave notice that thiigs were ready for work. in tanking their al)poitt ments to take clarge of the different a111ts o'thle lflikir, th iey were more Cx pAditions inl selectimg their oflicials, hain the lIepublican Semate has been inl getting to work. From their selce tions it seemed thalit they believed inl h .ving thlemselves well represented by p r.oms of size. Their post-naster was t hat six-toot-two-inchl gentieamaim. Colonel Toml , w ho used to move 215 on a beami. his assistant could not boast, of six anid two, was of fair round proportions, as were also -the two neOxt miost promuient personages of thme party. Well it was an April fool's piarty, so it wvould not be amiss to say that fooled were many older ones who attended for. jollity among themselves. For' the little ontes cap turedl the fort early in the evening and1( held it to the Iast. At the close Miss Lizzio returined the thanks of the school to time past,1 oflicials for thme p~rompllt dischmarge of their (duty. The whole thinig passed off with great suc cess. M.
