closing exercises and exidbition of this
school will take place on the 10th of
June next. Under the management of
Mr. D. B. Busby It jaas been conducted
admirably, we are Informed, for twd
years and is doing much good. Mr.
Busby cordially invites the teachers,
'either individually or as an association,
to attend the exercises and observe his
methods of teaching. We hope they

--Ma. W. A. Yarborough died at his
residence in Fairfield on Sunday morn
fig, April 10th, afteran illness of sev
eral. months, at the age of fifty-five
years. He was a member of the Meth
odist church and one of the most high
ly esteemed citizens of this county,
and his loss will be severely felt. His
remains were 11iterred in the burial
ground of the Little River Baptist
Church, where several members of his
family were buried.

This Association meets in Beaufort in
May, and a jolly time is expected, as
the brethren of the quill will enjoy an
excursion to several poilts of interest

sociation since its first organization.

attending. This has been a matter of
grave regret, as they wish heartily to

old book-an English translation of

ty. It is entitled "Universal Arith
metic, or a Treatise of Arithmeatical
Comnposiuion and Resolution," and it
comibinles Algebra, Geometry and
Conic Sections. The book we saw
was printed in London in 1720, and
was evidently used as a tert book by
some studen't In this country, we pre
snme. The modern school-boy may
congratulate himself that he lives in

all malo persons between the ages of
twenty-one and sixty years, eeept those
exempt by law.
These taxes shall be duo and payable In
two equal instalments, as foliQwA: The
flrAt instalment shall be duo and payable
from the first day of May to the first, day
of June, 1881. and the second instalment
shall be due and payable from the ff
toonth (lay of September to the thirty
first day of October, 1881: Provided, That
it shall be, and is hereby, left to the op
tion of any person either to pay the
amount of the frst in talment at the tine
first mentioned, or to pay the whole
amount at the time of the payment of the
second instalment thereof: Provided fur
ther, That if any person whosoever shall
fail or refuse to pay his or her taxer due
under the first instalment, he, she or they
shall be charged with a penalt. of five
per centum on the firat inistalment, which
penalty shall be added."
The Treasurer is authorized to receive
in payment of the above tales only gold
and silver coin, United StateS curi'ehey,
National Bank notes and Coupons, which
shall become payablo during the year
1881 on the valid :)onsolidated Bonds of
this State, known as "Brown londa."
Jury tickets and the per diem of State
witnesses in the Circuit Court will be re
ceived for County Taxes, not including
School Taxes.
