AGRICUURE. O0InAn1 ON Tnx FARM.-In )y ca timatlon the orchard is one of the most in portant divisiots of the farm, as it supplies the farmer's family with a healthful and delicious diet, and when properly cared for, is a source of cot siderable income besides. It should he of sufficient size to embrace not only apples, which are the standard fruit, but also pears, peaches, plums and cherries. The cultivation of trees is a source of great enjoyment to the lover of nature, and when it can be made a source of profit, a, is the case with fruit trees, a double purpose is served. I know of many farms that have been cleared from twenty five to fifty years, and yet no orchard has been ,et on them I I believe in the farmer's set ting a few trees annually, whether lie be old or Pyoung, and, if any chance seedlings conie up in some out of the way place, as is often the case, let thei grow, iind graft them, or give them to the boys to graft and take care of for their own. Grafting is a very simple operation, and also one that is very interesting, and every orehardist should be able to perform it. I learned to graft when a boy, by seeing one tree grafted, and then I made some tools, and many trees oi the farm now show the result of my experiment.ing, which was very successful; and although the fartn has passed out of the family, those trees possess much interest to me. I wish that next spring every farm boy vho reads this, would interest himself in grafting, for 1 believe it would endear the old homstead to him. In selecting varieties, I would set only a few of tle most popular-not over half a dozen varieties-but for family use It should be the aim in the husbandman to have a supply nearly the year round. Where few varieties are grown for market, they can be disposed of to better ad vantage than when numerous smail lots are on hand. in setting out trees, or in grafting, care should be taken to have each variety in a certain part of the orchard, as it is much handler, when gathering the apples, to have them separate, than to have themi all mixed up, Orchardlug requires some system, and it pays in all farming op erations. PRo'an CAic OF jBl, .Ss.-We Ilight as well say here that bulls for anything like extenlsive service shotild iot be allow( d to run with the herd, lost they should uselessly waste tlier procreative powers. Nor should they be coni nedI to a close stall, shut out from suilight and deprived of healthful excercise ot, of doors. A fair sized, strong yard should be proyided. A yearling bull, where only service is Permitted when, required, can serve twenty-ive to thirty cows, if managed With Judge ment. Young bulls during the season of service should be generously fed and daily groomed, and have f roin four to six hours' out-door execielse. A tight board fence Is best for the yar(l as this will prevent the wear and tear of his system by keeping the cattle out, of sight.
