On Monday Mr. J. Ebenezer Slan
toli of Jenkinsville was car iAd before
Coinmlesioner Stoeber on the charge of
voting inore than one ticket. Win.
Byrd was the prosecutor, and Jack
Woods and Bolin Gregory were his
witnesses. Byrn knew nothing and
Woods know nothing except that he
was Byrd's brother-in-law. Ott cross
examitnation Gregory admitted that
whot he sary r. Staunton vote might
have been only one ticket. On this
break down of the prosecution, Mr.
Staunton was discharged. It wos con
chlsively shown by the cross examina
tion that Byrd had trumped up the I
case to gratify a personal gridge.
Willis Johnson was tie deputy
marshal who made the arrest. It is
said other warratits for parties In. the
country are still out, and inay be
served at any time. Mr. StauIton. was
represented it Columbia by Messrs.
yles and Barron, who have all along
been freely volunteering their services
to parties arrested.
