AGRIOULTURU 3ory, bitter, or acid ihilk, the lhtter producing specks of curd in the butter may be and are usually, caused by ill liealt in the cow, by whieh the con dition of the blood is affected. The milk in its normal, healthful condition is slightly alkaline; but when: the' blood is out of condition it, alkalinity may be much Increased, or the inilk may be acid. In one case only, how ever, have I found ropy mik bxcessiv ely alkaline; in vert case in which I have such mil rit has been distinctly aild and has sometimes show ed, by the test of litmus paper, a high degree of acidity and has become very soon completely curdled; the long, fibrous clots placed under -the midros cope, appear simply. as curd fotmed in the ducts and molded by them.into the stringy pieces which pass through the teat into the-milk. The ropy or strin -y'matter is easily dissolved in-a solu tion-of carbonate of soda or potash, and -l would therefore seem to be caused by aclalty. The white specks which often appear in the butter are due to similar causes, andl are merely particles of curd or cheesy matter Which are formed in the mil'k and adliere to the cream and are carried up, and mingled with it, qnd so go with it Into the churn. In this case they are only partially re moved by the most careful washing and the.but.teris uneavodably Injured by them. The best remedy for all these trou leis with the m ilk Is tb.Ad minister a free dose of salts, one podtnd of suflphate of soda& (Glauber salts) or of sulphate of Magnesia (E4psom salts,) being dissolv ed in wairm water, by means of a com MOn dierwching horn : and after this 'I has operated, a daily dose of one ource of hyposulphite of soda may be given with benefit, for two weeks so as te effectually free the system from all ac idity. This salt is a most valuable me dicine in the dairy on account of its antiseptic and alterative properties, and a pound or two of it may be bene clcally kept for usc. It is readily ta kt i when powde ed and sprinkled over a mess of scalded bran or some cut feed and it will be found useful in all these' cases of trouble with milk. The in proper bebavior of milk in the churn is ue altogether to the after manage ment of the milk and requires special consideration. We have spared no expense in these cards-they are simply little art gems. Our only atmt lims been to publish the finest Oards yet shown. Applications for them have come in so rapidly that nearly the whole edition is engaged before the receipt by us of the cards from the artist. We have therefore been obliged to adopt the following plan for the dis tribution of the remainder: No more of the gilt Shakspeare cards, seven in the series, will be sent excepting upon the receipt of a statement from a grocer that the person applying for the cards has bought of him on that day at least seven bars of L..hbIns' Electric Soap, with price paid foe same. All apply lug in this manner wil receive the full set of seven cards gratis by mail. This will Insure us tnat our friends and patrons get their share ot these beautl ful designs, although it in no manner repays us for the cost of the cares. Your grocer has the'soap or will get it, and the purchase by you of seven bars of it at one time will secure for you qratis seven really beautiful cards. The soap improves with age, and is an at ticle of necessity in your house every week. Therefore you are not asked to buy a useless article, but one that you must have anyway. Please send us your applIcations at once, and tell your lady triends making "Card Collee tions,'" to do the sano. Grocers do not have the cards to deliver. Buy the soap of them, send us their.bill, and toe will mail you the cards free. Yours respectfully, . L. CRAQIN & CO., 116 South 4th Street, Philadelplia, Pa. P. S.-Ladies not wlahing to buy soap can get the cards by remitting cost price, 25 cents. "AVAsT heaving."
