Farmers in the country are now be ginning to make a little show in the way of planning for' a new crop. The cotton, whIch was late in being pickedi: is now all gather'ed amnd baled. A lar'ge average of spr'ing oats has been - plamnted, amid great expectations ar'e based on the hope of a good oerop-thls owing to the scarcity of corn in this locality. Not much fall oats was planted, owing to there being so muchl wet weather at that time, but. it has been made uip since the spring. In traveling fi'om, this place to 'Winnsboro, Anotice that some of the most strik~# features of' industry are hownos' plantations of Mr. A. [Williford bmd Mr. Thos. Owings. Here may those Who wish to learn how to bring the poverty washed hills to their. naturalstate, aId the murshy swamps, which in many places are allowed to produco-malaria only, and enrich the ph3slclan iII the Vay of praclice, stop for a mometit and look over the many deep drains that have been cut., and learn a proftlable lesson. I hope none Inay censure me fvr saying that before we can come up to the mark where all intelligent planters should stan(1, mor of just such work as these gentlemen are now -carrying on will have to be done. There certainly have beeii some fine crops Qf cotton made since the war, but, the many large bodies of woods that stood to shelter Sherman, have been howi down to narrow scopes, and the old fields left to riun Into gullies. All should remember that It is far more profitable to have "taters" to sell than seed t.o buy, and wood to cut than ioie to burn. Several meetings of the Jackson's Creek Demoeiratic Club have beet called to make arraigements for de fraying the expenses of those wlo have been arrested. As yet, I uniderstand, nothing has been done. This matter, above all other calls, should, I tlihik, be attended to prumpily0.
