DISCONTINUED.-The fast mail trains
have been discontinued oii this road
until further notice. As they ran at

The thanks of the office are tendered
to Mr. Jaines B. Turner for a pound
of very nice butter- made from one
milking of a young Jersey cow. Mr.
Turner has given much attention to
the rearing of fine cattle and he has
thus far been very successful.

reventeenth eentury the maister of a
contain parish in Scotland was the
famous Samuel Ruthertor, the rell
gious oracle of the Coveiianters and
their adherents. It Is among the tra.
ditions that on a Saturday evening. at
One of the filnily gatheiings, when
Rutherford was cateoliising his chil
dren and servants, a stranger knocked
at the door and begged shelter for the
night. The minister kindly received
him, and asked him to take' his place
with the family and assist at their re
ligious exerclises. It so happened that
tle question in the catechism which
came to. the stranger was that which
asks: "How many commandments
are there?" "Eleven." "Eleven I"
exclaimed Rutherfbrd, "I am sur
prised that a inan of your age and ap
pearance should not- know better;
what do you mean?" And he. an
swered, "A new commandment I give
unto you, that ye love one another; as
I have loved you, that ye also love one
another." Rutherford was much im
pressed by the .answer, and they re
tired to rest. The next morning as lie
threaded his way to church through
the thicket, lie heard amongst the trees
the voice of the stranger at his devo
tions. The elevation of the senti
ments convinced him that It was'no
common man, and on accosting him,
the traveler confessed that lie was no
other than the great divine, Arebbishop
Usher, the Primate of the Church of
Ireland, who well fulfilled that new
coninandment which lie bore to others.

sued their way to the little chiurch,
and from the rustic pulpit the Arch
bishop preached to the people, from
the words which had so startled his
