FARM AND GARDEN.
A Nw BILK Wonm [-European silk
producers have never had any great
success, and lately they have met with
heavy losses. The greater portion ot
the silk needed in. manufactures is im
ported from China and Japan, and It
Is of poor quality. The people of those
countries jealously keep the finest
products for home ue. As a conse
quence the French manufacturers are
constantly on the lookout for a substi
tute for the silk worm, and at last it
seens as if they had found it. An Im
ported moth has been naturalized liv
ing in a state of freedom and reproduc
ing its kind without any Interference
from man. It is to be seen flying
about in the moith of Jutie in the
squares and gardens of Parils, where
the allanthus tree grows. In winter
the cocoons of pretty pearly gray color
may be seen hanging from lealless
branohes of th'6 trees. This insect is
known as the attalus cynthia and was
introduced in France by the acclilma
tization society under the direction of
Guevin-Mineville. The cocoon is not
very rich in silk, and being strongly
inerusted is difllcult to unwind. In
wilding, only a single thread Is yield
ed; too flie to be used, and requiring
expensive and speolial machinery; but
a M. le JDoux has partly succeeded in
separating the gum from the silk, and
can wind from several cocoons at one
time, securing threads, or raw silk
suitable for weaving. The raising of
this new silk woi i cntails neither care
nor expeise, as thiLe motli look alter
themseives, and It is only necessary Lo
collect 1he cocoons. The ailanth us tree
is a rapid grower, lias veiy heavy foll
age, and is well adapted to grow in
VIsLe places. The silk Is said to be of
remarkably beautifultitit. The sup
ply Will be limited so long as cocoons
tave to be sought from the high trees.
lt might, howeyer, be pioutired in the

the result of eating too much and ex- ti
eroising too little. Often the cause is si
that the stomach is not able to digest -
the food last introdiuced Into It, either y
from Its having been unsultable or ox- ti
cessive in quantity. It is said a diet t
of bread and butter, with ripe fruits or r<
berries. with moderate, continuous ex- tI
ercise in the open air stifllolent to keep
up a gentle pt 0iration, would cure p
almost every ciso in a short tine. To
drink two tein pooifuls of powdered a
charcoal in ha.f a glass of water ge- te
erally gives iistant relief. The above t'
sovereign remedies uay do In some, w
but not in all cases. A sovereign rem- o
edy for this allment is noleasily found.
Sick headache Is periodical and is the ii
signal of distress whleh the stomach
raises to inform us that there ts an t
over-alkaline condition of Its fluids; o
that it needs a natural acid to restore 11
the battery to its normal working con- s
dicion. When the first sytptons of a
headache appear, take a teaspoonful of a(
elear lemon juice fifteen iniinutes be- r(
fore each weal and the same dose it
bed-time; follow this up until all v
sypilptoms are passed, taking no other it
reinedlies, and you will soon be able to
go free from your unwelcome nuisance.
Many will object to this because the a
reniedy Is too sinple, but many cures s

Under the nane ot "an electric ham

lierlin have lately patented an ar
rnangement which consiats essentially
of three coils and a hollow rod of iron
or soft steel, which can be moved to
and fro within tie coils in the direction
of their axis. By means of a constant
curremt, of unvarying direetton, sent
tcrotrgh the other coils a imachine or
battery sends alternating currents, by
virtue of which the rod is alLernately
drawn ine and thr'ust ortL with great
rapidity. The iotioni on one side is
illinited by a spiral spring working an
