We must ask our subscribers to pay us at once what they owe. The little from, each can easily be paid, while the aggregate is quite a consideration to Ils. The new heating-furnace for the rresbyterian Church has been put in working order, and was used on Sun day. The church Is now as neat and comfortable as anybody can wish. The improvements made are largely the result of the zeal and labors of Mr. D. It. Flenniken. A GALA WEIE IN CIIARLESTON.-As will be learned from our advertising columns, next week is to be a season of pleasure'for all visitors to Charles ton. The Industrial Exhibition of the Agricultural Society of South of Caro lina, will be well worth seeing, and will doubtless attract a large number of people from different parts of the State. The Jockey Club have arrang ed for races, and other kinds of amuse inents wilt present themselves. The railroads will sell tickets at reduced fare, and the people of the metropolis will "spread themselves" to m'ake everything pleasant and comfortable for their guests. The Exhibition will commenoe on the 6th and continue till the 17th December. POLITICAL PROsEcUTIoNs.-We un derstand that Mr. John D. Sharpe, Cornelius Johnson and Thomas With erspoon, from Jonkinsville, the first named whlite, and the others colored, and all Democrats, wvere before United States Commissioner Stoeber in Co lumbia on Friday last, Mr. Sharpe be ing charged with failure of duty as supervisor, and the two colored men -for voting more than one ticket at the recent .election. Witherspoon was discharged after a preliminary hear lng, and Johnson bounid over for trial. In Mr. Sharpe's case the Comnission er reserved his deelsioni until he could hear from Chief Supervisor Poier as to whether or not Mr. 8. had qualified. As a matter of fact none of the Demo cratic supervisors for this county qualified, and Mr. Sharpe cannot therefore be held liable. The Martins are supposed to have instituted these prosecutions, and our own "sweet scented" Henry Johnson appears to have had a hand in them-as he was seatedby Stoeber during the examina - tion. Let these things be renoembered. A NEGRO STABBED.- Saturday after noon a dispute arose between Jo~hu Rlochelle and Guy Lumpkin, resulting in the stabbing of the former by the latter. Rochelle's story is about as follows: lHe and Lumpkin had been joking together about their strength, when he bet Lumpkin fifty cents he could knock him down. Lumpkin ac cepted the challenge,' when Rlochelle knocked him down with a blow about the head. Lumpkcin soon afterwards met Rochelle on the street and, coming suddenly upon him, gave him a severe stab-the knife entering near the col lar-bone and severing some minor artery. Rochelle bled profhsely, but went at once to Dr. Aiken's store, where he was promptly attended to by Drs. T. T. Robertson and E. W. Aiken. The bleeding was checked after a short * ~ while, and the wvound seemed not necessarily fatal. At last accounts the wounded man was doing well, and there seem to be good chances he will - not die. We have not heard Lump kin's side of the story. We presume he will claim that hie struck in self defense, or, at all events, under very severe provocatIon. We know nothhi of Lumpkin. -Rochelle is a bad char acter generally. If hts wound shall *have tho'eff'ect of making a decent man of him, the community will be greatly benefited. TRAUIO DEATHS IN UNION.-Last Thursday, while Ephraimn Kelly and Major Jeter, two negroes, were -at work haliig cotton -on Mrs. D. E. Gee's plantation near Santue, a dispute arose -between the two, which resulted in Kelly's almost instant death by a pistol shot from the hands of Jeter, the ball entering the region )ust below the heart and going entirely through the body. Kelly spoke but a very few words after receiving the fattil shot. It Is said that they were drinking at the time the difficulty occurred, anid that Jeter became angry at Kelly for teasing him about something an'd de liberately pulled out his pistol and shot him Jeter claims that it was purely accidental. Jeter is a mere boy, only eighteen or nineteen years of age. le was arrested and iodge4 In jail to await his trial at the next term of -the Court of General Bessions. -On Fri day Frank Jeter, a colored brAkesman on the Spartanburg, Union and Co lnmbia Railroad, was struek on the head by a bridge 'as the freight train was passing under its Is injuries are fatal. --Sitting~ Bull Is about ready to ne gotiate a surrrender to the United States authorities.
