Tim COLUMBIA HoTEL.-We pulish
elsewhere the advertisement of this
well-known hotel, conducted by Mr.
R. N. Lowrance. The best evidence
of the merit of the establishment is
that it Is the favorite resort of vistors
f rom the diffierent parts of the State.
The proprietor is a worthy gentleman,
and he does all in his power to make
his guests confortale. The building
has just been renovated, and is as ieat
its a new pin. Altogether, the "Colun
bia" is.a good place to stop, and it
should be liberally patronized.
Tim LEGLSLATUnu.-The Legisla
ture met on Tuesday, but of course
little of interest was done. In the
Senate, the H1on. 1. D. Witherspoon,
of York, was unanimously chosen
temporary president, Col. r. Stobo
Farrow was re-elected clerk, Col. A.
D. Goodwin reading clerk, and Mr. L.
R. Marshall sergeant-at-arms. In the
House Mr.. Juo. (I, Sheppard, of
Edgefleld, was r'e-elected Speaker,
C3ol. Jno0. T. Sloan, Sr., clerk, Mr. RI.
M. Anderson, of .Abbeville, reading
clerk, and Mr. J. 1). Brown, of Barn
well, sergeant-at-arms. The Gover
nsor's message was read in both bodies
and referzed to appropriate commniit
toes. A nmumber of bills were intro
duced and p~roperly referred. Wed
nesday the 24th inst., at 1j o'clock, was
fixed as the ime for counting and de
clarinig the vote for Governor and

RETAKING THlE CENsUs.-The sp6cial
agents of the census departmnent to re
enumerate the State census hiavearriy

qjuartere at Colunibia. Colonel F. G.
B3utterfleld has charge of thie re-enu

Burt, 0. P. D. Stone, J. B. Issler,
Timothy Quinn, clerks of the census
office in Washington, and sworn as
special agents for this work. It will
b~e done over again from the beginning.
The egent hopes to get through. thie
einimerat Ion in three weeks. Colonel
Butterfield has telegraphed all the
supervisors for the State requesting a

not be canvassed, but agents will visit
certain townships in various parts o1
the State anid in this way estimate the
correctness of the returns from the
whole. In Abbeville Duo West Town.

Waterloo Township ; Fiairflehd, Town

ship ; Lexington, Broad River Town
ship; Chesterfield, Steer Pen; Marion,
Caine; Williamsburg, Johnson Town
ship. These are selected because their
increase is large. No fraud is charghd
ngainst them. With reference to
TownshIp 8, in this county, there is
nothing to fear from a second cunu

by Col. B. E. Elkin, and thie work was
performed faithfully and accurately,
