which were so pleasant during the
last winter and summer, will be reor
ganized at the residence of Mr. -D. R.
Flenniken on Friday evening, 19th
inst., at 7 o'clock. Winnsboro has
never had more delightful social gath
erings than these readings, and all
who-desire a good time would do well
to go to Mr. Flenniken's at the time
stated. There will be reading, music
-both vocal mid instruinental-anec
dotes, an.(1 in fact, everything that is
calculated to render the occasion both
pleasant and profitable.

Tmhis is the title of an adniirable little,
book of tables, calculated and conh
piled by Mr. Sabritt D. Dunn of this
place. Its object is to facilitate the
calculation of the cost of cotton or
other commodities. Under any given
price (ranging from five cents to sov
enteen cents a pound, through inter
vals of two and a half hundredths of a
cent, and also through sixteenths of a
cent), there is a column of nine rows
of' figures, giving the cost of from one
to nine pounds respectively. Fromn
this the cost of~ any ntumber can be
found almost instantaneously by simi
ply running the decimal point to the
right-one place for tens, tw-> places
for hundreds, and so on. The cost of
a bale or' cotton weighing 498 pounds(1,
at 10.42k cents, is thus found. Turn

0. Boylston, near that city:
The death of Mr. William Cloud
Boylston, mentioned Il . yesterday's
American,' at Buinside, tile residence
of Mr. Sainuel H. Shoemaker, day be
fore yesterday, has been the cause of
great regret and sorrow ainong his
lrge circle of acquaintances and
friends iri this city. Mr. Boylston was
the son of Hon. R. B. Boylston, of
Winnsboro, South Caroliia, and was
thirtv-ouevears old. He was a gradu
ate of tile University of Virgihia, and
was at the time of his death a member
of the Baltimore bar, with bright pros
pects. 'He married Miss Augusta
Shoemaker & daughter of Mr. Samuel
H. Shoemnaker, about four years ago.
A few months since, when he went
abroad with Mr. Shoeinaker anid Ills
family, his health began to fail, tile
chief trouble being, as was then sup
posed, a derangement of the liver. His
complaint, however, gradually took
the forni of a pulmonary attack, which
developed into a. rapidI consumption
an-.1 terminiated in his death. Mr.
Boylston was a member of the Odd
Fellows and -leptaiophs. A pure and
consistent Qhristia), he was a member
and regular attendant of Emmanuel
Church. t Ie leaves a widow and twinl
