in Hopkinsville, Ky., on the 11th ins,

A large quantity of land will be sold
by the clerk of court on the first Mon
day of December. There are about
twenty-five tracts' advertised for sale,
and we expect some of them will be
sold at low figures. Parties desiring
plantations ol good terms would do
well to take notice.
It is rumored that the leading
Radicals in this county are seeking to
stir up some devilment. Let them take
notice that their actions are closely
watched and that their villainous
schemes will all come to naught. The
time has passed when they can accom

white men of this county.

ing of the State Board of Health, Dr.
S. Barucn, of Camden, read a report
optpd subject of vaccination, of which
the Columbia Register gives the fol
losving synopsis:
The report .dwelt upon the great
necessity of ageneral vaccination of
the people, and emnbraced~vsluable r'e
ports tromn all the saib-boa'de 'of health
ini the State slioking. the 'cryino need
of vaccinationi. The sub-boardTs were
almost unanimous in their recomn
mnendation that some1 step) be taken to
protect the peole against the scourge
of small-pox, 4vyhi may at any time
invade the State.: The report dwdlt
at length upon the statistical ad oth
er evidences whielt deiflonstrate the
efficacy of the 'pr'otective power of
vaccination and its amiello'rating effect
upon small-pox when from any canse,
as foinsitance, inefficient vaccinationi,
or thle wvanhg imiflue'nc6 of' protective
measures., small-pex is contracted.
The report also proved by statistical
evidence that the vacci nat ion perform
ed by Jenner and his imumediate foi
lowers afforded far greater protection
to the people of that tine thana thle vac
cination done ill more recent times.
This wvas demnstrated. too, bv refer
ence to various epidemics wich had
prevailed from time to time to thle
preCsent daiy. Tfhe report also dIwelt
upon the absurd position which tihe
anti-vaccinationists occupy inl their
opposition to this great boon, and aj>
p~ealed to the executive committee t
use their utmost endeavor to induce
the Legislature to give them the prop
er~ asistanee forn carrying out thte plan,
which wvas embodied, to have a gener
al vaccination for the State. The re
porter llmpressed upon the committee
tile importance of immediate acotion,
as by this means thley wvould do their
full duty, and if time people~ remained
unprotected the responsibility would
remainl withl the legislative bodies
which refused their assistance, Hie
concluded by map~ping out a. plan
for general vaccination. The rep~ort
was referred to the committee appoint
ed by the State Board of Health at its
last session1 to p~resenit withl their annu
ad report to the Legislature.
