The Town Council have elected Mr.
William Gunnells policeman, vice
Lieut. J. E. Williams resigned.
We had more rain on Wednesday,
and the streets were flooded with
water. Notwithstanding the rain and
muddy streets, there was a good crowd
of people in town.
A great many of our citizens are
absent this week at the State Fair, and
the trains have -been crowded when
they passed Winnsboro with people of
the other counties. "Lot 'er roll I"
A large quantity of fruit trees, from
the commercial nurseries of Nashville,
Tenn., are now being delivered at
Winnsboro. It Is a healthy sign of
prosperity, when our people begin to
improve and ornament their plinces,
and we hail it as the harbinger of bet
ter times.
Thing have become remarkably
quiet about town since the election,
and every one seems contented with
tle situation. Our whole county
ticket has been elected, and the fortu
nate ones will soon enter upon tile dis
charge of the duties of their rcspec
ilve ofiles.
MAnuIAGE BELLs.-Quite a pleasant,
social event took place In Winnsboro
on Tue'sday evening, being the mar
riage of Mr. James M. Stewrt to Miss
Recbecca C. Robertson, daughter of
Dr. TF. T. Robertson. The ceremnony
wvas performned' by the Rev. Josiah
Obear- There were 110 attend~ants.
A number of friends and relatives
wer~e present. The eveninug passed off
delighltfully. The larger portionl of
the bridal p)arty le!ft for Columbia the
next morning to attenmd the FaXir. To
Mr. Stewart and his charoming bride
warmest congratulations are extended.
DEATIls.-We regret to have to
chronicle the death of Mr. W. C.
Boylston, which occurred at his home,
in Baltiinore, Md., on Monday eveni
ing, the 6th instant. Mr. Boylston
was formerly citizenl of this egnnty
and resident of Winnsboro, but re
moved to Baltimore several years ago
to practice his professlin, which was
that o'f the law. For several months
past lie had been in a declining state
of health, agd at length (lied of that
insidious dusease-consumption. Hie
wvas the son of lHon. R. B. Boylston,
who was well known to many of our
readers. Mr. Boylston leaves a wife
and several children, to whom, with
his numerous relatives and friends, we
extend our sincere sympathiee.
We, also, are pained to announce
the deaths of two of our citizens,
which occurred at nearly the same
time and from tile same disease:
Mr. D. R. Gladney died at his reel
dence, in Winnsboro, on Tuesday
. morning, from an attack of pneumno
ia. He was about forty-seven years
of age, and had,- for a few years past,
been in bad health. Hie was a brave
soldier of the Confederate army, and
bore on his body tile woun~ds of the
bayonet received in battle. is re
mains were taken to Jackson Crook
Church for burial on Wednesday morn
ing.
Mr. H. Hiammon died of the- same
disease on Tuesday morning. He was
a native of Germany, but for many
years. had been) a quiet and unobstru
sive citizen of Winnsboro. -ie, also,
had been failing in health for more
than a year. is funeral took place
at the Presbyterian Church at nine
o'clock on yesterday morning.
GRE~AT BRITAIN's TRiOUIES.-The
