We are paned to announce the death of Mrs. Calidwell, wife of Mr. Jacob A. Caldwell, which took place on Sil I[van's Island on Tucsdav morning. Mrs. Caldwell went to the Island about'l month ago, to have a, surgical operation performed for cancer. The Operation was successaul, but she weakened under it, and, gradually sinking, breathed her last ot Tuesday. The remains Were b-onght from Charleston on Wednesday, And in terred in the family burying-ground. MErs. Caldwell was a most estimnable *lady. She leaves her husband . and seven , children to mourn her' loss. These have the heartfelt sympathy of' our whole community. Ollever. TIH DINNER. The dinner was a barbecue and pic nic oombined, and was all that the taste of an epicure could desire. How could it be otherwise when presided over by men of such tas'to and experi. once as the affable 0. H. Scruggs, Dr. Ned Gibson (who knows the use of the spatula, but profers the knife and fork on such occasions) and the sturdy Goodjig Steele, who knows when to turn a carcasu to bring it to the proper brown. Nor must I forget the kind Nathan Roberts and the many matron ly ladies that presided over the table. Dear mothers of the land, -how could we get along without you? Now, if I havo forgotten any of you or anything, charge it to-the good people of Union Church- neighborhood for placing so IIIan y.-tenpatlons in my way. It - is true, we were dlisappointed ini not seeing more of our teachers ou i, but u e suppose, it being vacation with most of tliem, that they am'o absent from the county either for businiess or pleasurc. *We hope, how ever, that at our next meeting the1e wvill be a full rep)resentation from all the white schools in the conty. The 1Rev. B. 1i. Corley deserves the' highest praise for the zeal he has displayed in getting up the Teachers' Association, and also for his efforts to make it in the end a grand success.
